Man that was fun watching those two kids walk across the stage!
They have the skills , the charisma and the great smiles to bring the NBA back to the days of Magic and Larry. (Not that Larry has a smiled)
It appears as though they have their heads on straight and won't blow it with posse's , drugs or illigitimate kids. I hope they get a chance to go head to head for the champoinship some day.

except that Lebron has already said he is keeping his posse with him throughout his career and buying them whatever they want. He also was quoted as saying he was buying each of them cars after he was drafted.

Carmelo seems fine, but Lebron is as cocky as they come!

Interesting time to be watching this league. It could be very fun watching TMac, Kobe, Carmelo, and Lebron grow up. The head-to-head matchups may be awesome.

I'm glad Carmelo has a guy like Lebron in this draft. All this hype around Lebron treating him as if he is the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ make me pull for Melo. I'm sure it motivates Melo too. I'd be busting my ass everyday to try to punk the media and Lebron. I know Lebron is 18 and I shouldn't root against him, but he is in a man's league now and if he isn't ready for people wanting him to not do good then he should have gone to college. Also, I'm not really rooting against him, but its what Rocketfan said that makes me not like players. I don't like cocky guys. I get the feeling that Lebron is actually buying into what everyone is saying about him and I really can't wait for him to get a slap in the face and realize he ain't King.

Dont take this the wrong way but what the NBA really needs is a American white superstar in order for alot of casual fans to catch on. That would hurry the process up in getting back to the glory days.

Lebron Vs Melo is going to be awsome to watch for years to come, I bet TnT or ESPN will pick a few of those games up this year

In a few years Darko vs Yao will also be something special to watch.

When you have 100 million+ in endorsements what's wrong with buying his lifelong friends a couple of cars? Man, you guys are heartless. Everyone buys mansions anyway, so he might as well spend a little of his money on his friends. His posse is basically made up of his teammates from hunior high and high school. If I was filthy rich, I would hook my friends up with cars too.

Man, I couldn't care less about the marketability of the NBA. A white superstar would definitely help league's marketability, but I'm not losing sleep over it. I'm a basketball fan -- let David Stern worry about marketability and demographics. I'm all about what happens on the court, not who's watching it.

In a matter of the last few months, LeBron has gone from overrated to underrated, while Melo has gone from underrated to overrated.

    Magic had charisma and game.
    MJ had charisma and game.
    Isiah had charisma and game.
    Barkley had charisma and game.
    Olajuwon had charisma and game.

Bird just had game but he was white.

You could name a could name some others but you would have to say these guys were the golden age of the NBA. They weren't all squeaky clean but they did put forth a positive, likeable public image. Why?

Right or wrong a large part of the public's perception of them is derived from the fact that they have a big toothy smiles. Tiger Woods may be thinking about his hemrohoids but if we see his teeth we think "gosh he's having fun"

Lebron and Carmello both have game and infectious smiles. That is what makes me think they may play a part in a revival of the NBA's popularity. You need skills in your chosen field first but if you want to be a superstar maybe you need to go to a plastic surgeon and have him tie your cheeks back so your teeth show all the time. Adding a dimple would be a nice touch too.

    Wierd huh?,

Technically, he said that BEFORE he got the 90 million from Nike..and furthermore he said something along the lines of "whats mine is theirs (posse)" "i'm gonna get them whatever they want." Sounds like more than just a one-time gift...

i agree about the whole white guy issue. i think that the presence of a white guy would appeal to a lot of fans who are apparently disenchanted by the hip hop style now prevalent in the L. Dirk is the closest thing, but with the institution of zone D you might see more Larry Legend types (ie sweet stroke, fundamental, but not as athletic). it seems to me that there was a white guy at the McDonalds game that was pretty good. it would be cool if Dunleavy Jr. was better (he actually fits the bill of what i mentioned), but the best white boys sem to be playing in europe.

TANGENT: i have a conspiracy theory that Manu Ginobilli is the son of a Nazi expatriate. he doesn't look latin or indian at all, he is tall, and from Argentina? Sprechen Sie Deutsch Herr Manu?

No hes not but this is a differnt era. The NBA needs something that most people havent seen which is a American White Superstar. This will undoubtly make new fans. The NBA is dominated by African Americans, if a American white superstar makes it big, it will have a huge effect on the sport similar to the effect that Tiger Woods had on golf but to a lesser extent of course.

History lessons taught me Argentina is mostly comprised of Italian immigrants. GIven Manu's last name, he is very likely to be of Italian descent.

I agree...I know I'm not the only one, but don't you hate it when he's referred to as "King" James...Mostly the media, and his mom...

I want him to succeed, but I think he's too over-hyped and you got to know the vets will be trying to put him in check...

When has Lebron ever said anything negative about people who hate him for no reason? The kid hasn't done anything for you to get riled up about either. You seem to be the one with issues. This is the second thread I've seen where you said you will root against him. Get over it.

If you can find another thread where I said I would root against him then go for it cuz I haven't. I also didn't say I was rooting against him if you read what I wrote. "Also, I'm not really rooting against him, but its what Rocketfan said that makes me not like players."

But anyhow...I am not looking for the guy to fail I am just saying he needs some cold water thrown on him and the media needs a slap in the face to for hyping this guy up so much. It seems like Lebron is buying into it too and forgetting that he is just a kid right out of high school. I have liked Lebron's attitude in the past, but he seems more cocky now and he is starting to believe all this hype. That is the only thing that can kill his potential. The media is treating Lebron like he is going to come in and kick ass from day one. I am sick of seeing him get all these props for crap he hasn't even done yet. I like Lebron and I think for the most part he has spent time on fundamentals and learning the game more than 1 v 1 showtime crap, but I think the Lebron phenomenon has gone too far and he needs to get knocked down a few rungs on the proverbial ladder. I don't like cocky players thats all.

That being said this guy is going to eventually dominate in the NBA with the mind he has and the physical talents he has been blessed with. I want this guy to succeed, because I think he will be great for the game but with all the hype and rock star like atmosphere around him has gone too far.
