I live in San Antonio and the local media is saying T Parker and T Duncan are untouchable, but they definitely will go after TMac aggressively. I know we have a little room under the cap but is there any way we can keep SF and sign TMac?

    C Yao
    PF Cato
    SF TMac
    SG Mobley
    PG SF

And has anyone heard anything about Nick Van Exel yet? I hear he wants to come to Houston. I think he has a house in Sugar Land.

If the Suns manage to pull that off, that Marbury trade looks a whole lot better. It gave them cap space to sign Nash and allowed them to tank the season to get that lottery pick to trade for Mcgrady. Goes to show how replaceable guards like Francis and Marbury are. They trade a player that was supposedly their franchise point guard for nothing and in the end could end up better for it.

if the rockets dont make moves this offseason they will get left behind. Portland, Denver, and Utah will be better. WE BETTER GET MCGRADY. San antiono better not get him, dont know how they would but still.

Wow, I was taken back by the thought of losing all three of these guys...You're right, it would be a huge hit for the rocks, but these are SOME of the same 'core' players that could not get into the playoffs for the previous 5 years...Other than playing in the Eastern Conference, what would make Orlando think these players would change their fortune???

I think NVE and MoT live in a gated community in Royal Oaks...Cat might live there, too.

Jeez, this would be a very nice team...but, I can't see the Spurs predominately playing Duncan at the center position.

    McGrady+Yao+Cat > McGrady+Amare+Nash

Even more relevant is the Suns aren't hampered by ridiculous contracts. Francis is a moveable commodity, but Cato, Spoon, and Mo Taylor aren't.

But here's the best thing about aquiring Grant Hill for Cato or MoT's contract.........

Grant Hill's hefty contract is off the books next season.

Whereas Cato and MoT's are not.

That's why I would do a deal involving T-Mac and Hill. Cause T-Mac is that damn good. And when Hill's contract expires, that gives the Rocks cap space to further improve this team next off-season.

If we landed McGrady and Howard for, say, Steve/Cat/Cato (I don't think it works, but as a for-instance), we could maybe go over the cap and sign a player with the MLE to fill a need. McGrady + Yao would fill Toyota Center every night.

By the way, I think Grant Hill has 3 more years on his contract. The only way we would get relief with his contract is if he finally just said, You know what? I can't play any more. Then we could get a medical exception worth half his salary (not that we'd use it).

Maybe Steve/Cat/Cato for McGrady/Hill and a future #1; but then we'd have given away too much, given Hill's uncertain status.

That could only happen if T-Mac walks free after next season. Even that way, that is 3 max contracts + 2 clost max contracts we are talking about here. Yes, there is a way!!! :D

McGrady and Yao would play the two-man game (inside-out, one-two punch). But McGrady would still be the "man" in Houston. The "star." He wouldn't need to shoot 23+ times here. That would lessen a bit. But lets think about that for a second.... Francis was a PG trying to play like a SG. McGrady IS a 6'8" SG! His job will be to score. But guess what the bonus is? McGrady averages 5.5 assist per game and only 2.6 TO per game. Not bad for a shooting guard, huh?

When you have a 6'8" monster shooting guard like McGrady that can average 29ppg if you let him. Well, you have to take advantage of those skills. This does not mean that he will ignore Yao. To the contrary. Yao will play off of the "star" McGrady; which he's more suited for. Brent Barry would be the PG setting up McGrady and Yao. :) Barry can also shoot the 3.

So, the role of McGrady will be quite different than we used SF for.

    rocksolid,

I wonder if the Magic would package some of those players for a top 1st round pick next draft, i.e. make a phone call on draft night and say, "We'll trade you Francis/Mobley for the 3rd over all pick...and try to really rebuild.

Because Yao is not starting for them, and Francis is an incredible player when there's no dominant big man.

Because Cuttino Mobley plays much better against Eastern teams than Western teams. (Proven by stats)

Because Cato is the best C they'd have had since Shaq I believe.

    Cato/Declerq
    Howard/Gooden
    Garritty/Howard?/Bogans
    Mobley/Stevenson
    Francis/Gaines

They would still have the MLE as well as their lottery pick. So they're picking between Dwight Howard, Emeka Okafor and Luol Deng. Add one of those players, and maybe Carlos Arroyo? Damon Jones? Rafer Alston?

Definitely playoffs. Easily easily playoffs. Mobley and Francis woud eat teams alive, especially with Garritty shooting, Howard handling the post, and such a solid bench of Deng (temporarily), Gooden, and an MLE pickup.

That first team does look a little bit better. That's true. But think about what other players we can add to the "McGrady/Yao" team.

    Barry
    McGrady
    Jim Jackson
"Power fowards wanted" <---this will be a key issue
    Yao

P.S. Too bad our PF can't be Amare. That would be a freaking bad-ass team! The two meanest PF are Amare and K-Mart (I don't mean *best* I talking about, "mean," like in "pissed off at the world").

    I got a question.

Why is there very little to no talk over starting Boki next year? Or even a single mention of him being our 6th man off the bench? Or bringing in other role players? But there's plenty, bring in superstars, not only T-mac, but go for Amare, Rasheed, okafur, okur, steve nash and make this team into a one year monster team, talk? When summing up possibilities for next year's team?

In all that, Yao is left behind, Boki is left behind, what JJ will contribute is left behind, what other role players we could obtain to aid a team focused on a T-mac and yao offense, is left behind.

    Ah well.

Another question, if we picked up Grant hill's contract, what's his current status? Would he be healthy enough to play next season?

Because first thing is first: Figuring out who our "star" will be. Once we do that, we can start establishing who those role players will be; the complementary players.

Trust, me. I'm all for Boki getting more PT. See sig. :)

I don't know about Hill but I make the trade though. I know for a fact that in 2000, CD was this close to going after Hill but backed out. Don't know any other details because it was years ago but CD LOVES Hill..or at least he did then!
