I was wondering if anyone had Espn Insider because this is one of the articles in it. These two players are often mentioned if proposed trades for the rockets so it looks like they are going to be on the trading block this offseason. If the rockets could get McDyess that would be sweet! Trade KT , and our lotto pick for him. PG Francis SG Mobley SF Griffen PF McDyess C Cato That's a playoff lineup right there.
And the salary cap buzzer sounds... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! You can't make a deal like that because McDyess makes way too much. Besides, who do you think teams feel has the greater upside, KT or Odom?
Odom definately has the better upside, but when you throw in the 6th overall pick in the draft to a team that's rebuilding our position looks better. We also have a few players that we can put in the trade along with KT to make it work such as Cato, Moochie, and by the way the nuggets have been making trades lately they might take Rice off our hands.
The only player we have that would interest the Clips would be Francis or perhaps K.T. if they didn't think Ekezie (6-9, 270) will not work out. They don't need any more youth -- they need to let their players mature. Look at their lineup: C - Olowokandi (backup needed); PF - Brand (backup needed); SF - Odom and Miles; SG - Q Richardson, Maggette and Piatkowski; PG - McInnis and Dooling. Now why would we want to make them stronger by gutting the Rockets for Odom? if we don't draw #1 / #2 / #3, why not package Thomas and our pick to slide up enough to get Woods? At #6 we can certainly get Caron Butler.
*enter NugzFan* (oh wait thats me) if you knew anything about the nba, then the 'way' the nuggets have been making trades lately' we would say NO to any deal like that over and over again. once again i urge you to check the #s of the teams since the trade. im not saying we won or ripped them off, but the same goes for them.
Nugzfan: The Nuggets should try and trade McDyess because they basically said that they were starting over when they made the trade with the Mavs. With Denver's 4th pick and the 6th pick from the Rockets they could build a nice young foundation. 4th - Dajuan Wagner From Rockets: 6th - Chris Wilcox, K. Thomas, and Rice(salary would come off after a couple of years the same time as J. Howards to give them a ton of cap room to pursue a free agent that year.) If I was Denver I would be estatic about the possibility of getting both Wagner and Wilcox to build around.
ESPN: Insider: McGone? Denver's season was over before McDyess' even began. The vultures are circling around Antonio McDyess. After the Nuggets quickly caved to Nick Van Exel and Raef LaFrentz before the trade deadline, teams are hoping for a repeat this summer. The Nuggets have a few months to convince McDyess that they have a plan in place to rebuild quickly. Good luck. They traded away their best young player, LaFrentz, for cap room, which means they're a good five or six players away from a championship. We have no doubt Kiki Vandeweghe can turn it around, but it's hard to imagine McDyess waiting around for the next five years to see it happen. If they think there's a good chance his eyes will wander next summer, he could be gone.
If this were the case, then Rice would probably be someone the Nuggets definitely wouldn't mind having on their payroll. However, Rice's contract does not end the same year as Howard's contract. Player-----------01/02---------02/03---------03/04 Juwan Howard---$18,750,000---$20,625,000-----------$0 Glen Rice--------$8,800,000----$9,200,000----$9,600,000
Yeah, it would be GREAT if next year was really the last year of the contract. Maybe if he retired...
I'd much rather have Rice's contract that ends in two years than the one we stuck NY with. Wouldn't matter at all if he retired next year unless we got the injury exception for it. Not sure how much that would help the team though.
Yeah, at least Rice's contract expires before we have to resign Griffin. With Shandon Anderson, it would be tough to sign Griffin.
A question: If we bought out Glen Rice's contract next year, would his salary still count against the cap?
first of all, we didnt cave. we got exactly what we wanted and fortunately we were able to do so with probably the ONLY team to take on all 4 guys we traded. second, we need to wait at least til next year to see where (if anywhere) dice is going. he might stay.
You can only buy a player out of their contract if they have such a clause in it. Two examples are Rod Strickland and Mitch Richmond in Washington. And in any case, even if a player is bought ut, half of their contract figure still counts against the cap for the remainder of the contract.
