But about the Zogby Poll, it has been the most consistently tilted to McCain throughout the campaign so far. Other polls are still showing Obama with a small lead. But also consider that all the latest polls were done at a time when Obama was on vacation and McCain's strong suit was on display thanks to the Russian invasion of Georgia.

And what kind of tie is that? It was nothing other than someone a politician and supporter. That is a ridiculous thing to try and pin some kind of evil connection on.

There isn't even smoke there for there to be fire.

Just to clarify, a fellow professor at Univ of Illinois founded a nonprofit to promote education that Obama chaired. This is a bad thing because the guy, 40 years ago, did some really bad things? Never mind that he's now an education professor at a respected university, and by all accounts, he lives a pretty straight life. But since he did some bad stuff when Obama was a kid, anyone who knows him is now bad by association?

McCain served in the Senate with a known former KKK guy (Byrd). The KKK espoused violence. He must be tainted also!

Aren’t republicans becoming tired of tearing down their opponents to win elections? I mean, yeah, it works, but doesn’t it make you feel ashamed to lie and deceive people in order to win? Don’t you think it’s time to put forth candidates that can run on their own merits and not have to demonize their opponents?

That’s mainly a rhetorical question; you don’t have to answer.

pgabs -- Obama still has not released his birth certificate. What is posted on Fightthesmears.com is his certificate of live birth, which is a different document than his actual birth certificate.

He hasn't posted his historical medical records either, which is suspicious.

The birth certiicate issue links into the Indonesian citizenship issue... Obama's trip to Pakistan also links into these issues, and could be devastating.

Exactly right. The connections are so tenuous and completely benign. It's ridiculous to make an issue of this. The fact that Fox news regularly hypes the connection as something serious doesn't help their credibility.

There's only the one poll showing the OP...

From the Christian Science Monitor political blog...

    ----------
Hot off the wires, it’s the new George Washington Battleground poll . If you don’t like the results in that one, you can look at the new Zogby poll just released today. Want a different answer? How about today’s Gallup poll? If you want more there’s the LA Times/Bloomberg poll released yesterday. Or if you want to know who the greatest “boy band” is, that poll is out too.

    Similarities of the polls

In four of the five polls, Barack Obama and John McCain are very close (neither fared well in the greatest boy band poll).

McCain seems to be trending up, while Obama has taken some hits. Here’s an excerpt from each poll:

    From Gallup:

“McCain and Obama have been nearly tied in Gallup Poll Daily tracking for a full week. This sets the stage for a potential shift in the structure of the race resulting from next week’s Democratic National Convention. Even an average “convention bounce” for Obama (a 5-point increase in his support) would give him a significant lead over McCain.”

    From George Washington:

“Despite a negative political environment for the Republicans, the presidential horserace is within the margin of error (+ 3.1%). With a tight turnout model, McCain currently tops Obama by 1 point (47%-46%). However, when voters are asked which candidate they think is going to win the election, 51% say Obama, versus 34% who think McCain will prevail.”

    From Zogby:

McCain leads Obama by a 46% to 41% margin. And McCain not only enjoys a five-point edge in a two-way race against Obama, but also in a four-way contest including liberal independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Bob Barr, the poll reveals. In the four-way contest, McCain wins 44% support, Obama 39%, Barr 3% and Nader 2%

    From LA Times/Bloomberg:

“In a head-to-head matchup, Obama holds a narrow edge over McCain, 45% to 43%, which falls within the margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. (In June, Obama was ahead by 12 points in the Times/Bloomberg poll, but other surveys at the time showed him with a narrower lead.)”

All i know is that if McCain wins then all the pro-McCain voters better be volunteering for duty when he re institutes the draft. Cause I sure as hell dont want to be fighting in any of his 'other wars' that he keeps talking about.

Oh and deep down TJ you must know that the anti black sentiment runs deep in this country. In fact it runs all the way down to its roots. Many people are simply not gonna vote for Obama because he is black. Its simple. This doesnt mean that ALL McCain voters are racist it just means some are :D

You could, but that would be a stupid thing to say given the construct of your initial argument. Your original premise was "that more people support Obama for purely racial reasons than support McCain for purely racial reasons." Based on the following coupled with the understanding that the percentage of white voters is about 77% while the percentage of black voters is about 11%, trying to make the number of racists look equal to the number of blacks who are proud of Obama is ridiculous.
