    Ah, my old friend Meghan.

This is the woman who told me in front of witnesses that she hated Bush, that her father hated Bush and that she believed that when the curtain was closed he would pull the lever for Kerry.

Good thing she's cute, otherwise Rush Limbaugh would have another thing to attack McCain about.

I'm not saying he did or didn't. Just reporting the conversation. It happened on the rope line outside 30 Rock after the 04 season premiere of SNL, hosted by Ben Affleck. Meghan McCain was an intern there and she was working directly under my then-girlfriend's best friend from college, which was how I came to be there. I knew she was there and had my ears open as I was hoping to meet her. Here's how the conversation went, paraphrased of course but very close to exact as it was a very memorable conversation...

MM: (overheard by me) ...Well, when my dad hosted the show...
BJ: (insinuating myself into conversation) Your dad hosted the show? Who's your dad?
    MM: Oh, Senator McCain.
BJ: (lying) Oh, that's cool. I'm a big fan.
    MM: Thanks. Me too.
BJ: So who's he voting for?
    MM: Kerry.
BJ: He must hate Bush after all he put him through.
    MM: Oh, yeah!
(Interruptions from other people chiming in about their hatred of Bush.)
MM: Oh yeah, I hate Bush.
BJ: Yeah, I get that you do, but who's your dad voting for?
    MM: John Kerry.
BJ: Is he running for president again?
    MM: Oh, yeah.
BJ: Wish him luck for me.
MM: Thanks. I will. I mean, I'm not 100% he's running, but I think he is. He'd better be -- I'm not hanging out with the Bush daughters for nothing...

This strikes me as a "Macbeth-esque" fabrication. Seriously.

Believe it or don't. I don't care. It's true. I don't think it's actually that big of a deal and I don't know why anyone would have trouble believing it. McCain and Kerry have always been close friends due to their common status as Vietnam vets. And Bush's campaign smeared McCain horribly in 2000. As a side note, I found her very bright and charming if a little embarassed about having been on the Bush campaign trail in the context of the extremely liberal SNL folks she'd been hanging with. She might well have been overcompensating because of that, but what I wrote is what she said.

I guess I sort of resent the implication that I'm lying here, though these guys have said far worse about me before. I don't think any rational person here has ever accused me of lying about anything on these boards and it would be a weird as hell thing to make up, but I really don't care if basso or Jorge believes it. They're well known for believing whatever they want regardless of evidence to the contrary.

mmmmmkay, right Batman. So it's quite normal to think that 1) You were hanging out with SNL people 2) You were hanging out with the GOP nominee's daughter 3) She openly spoke against the standing President and GOP leader and 4) The two of you engaged in 1-on-1 conversation. Sure.

Parts of your story MIGHT be true. Might. But not the whole thing. Sorry, but calling it like I see it.

Batman has gotten into your head. Is it true? Is it false? Is it partly true? Batman Jones dominates your thoughts.

    1) I was hanging out with SNL staff, yeah. My girlfriend's best friend was one of Lorne Michaels' assistants. I'm sorry your life is so boring that you find it hard to believe I hung out with entertainment folks. I've done it a fair amount, actually. I've had way too much to drink with David Cross, Griffin Dunne, David Berman, Medeski Martin & Wood, the UK Subs and various other minor music stars. I've also had one on one talks with Jerry Brown (who stayed at my house for a couple nights), Jesse Jackson, Ken Bentsen, Molly Ivins (who I interviewed for a Houston Press story), Chris Bell, Mayor Ray Flynn, Jack Germond (of the McLaughlin Group) and Don Novello (Father Guido Sarducci). When I was a waiter in NYC, I waited almost every day on Frank Langella, B.D. Wong and Al Goldstein. Once I waited on Justine Bateman. Also had a single drink with Mitch Hedberg. So meeting minor celebrities really isn't that big a deal to me. As a guest of an SNL staff member, I hung out at the rope line waiting for the private car they were sending to drive us to the cast's after party (which sucked as it was packed, was a very expensive cash bar and you had to go outside to smoke -- we only stayed there for one drink but I got to meet Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, which was cool).

2, 3 and 4) Meghan was an intern there, she was hanging out waiting for a car to the party too. She's a normal girl. Everyone was talking out there and anyone could have had a one on one talk with her. It was very clear she just wanted to be treated like one of the gang. I found it a little startling how open she was in talking about Bush and her dad's feelings about him too, but she's a young girl surrounded by Democrats and other liberals so I wasn't too surprised.

I don't have a history of lying about anything or even exaggerating here, Jorge. You're out of line accusing me of lying.

This reminds me of the time I boinked her on the set of SNL after everybody had left for the night... or so we thought! Jenna Bush caught us red handed. Thinking fast, I convinced her to join in so that she couldn't make a fuss about the incident later. Incidentally, she ended up making quite a fuss anyways!

p.s. While I'm name dropping celebs I've met, I have to include Rudy T, Jim Boylen and Sam Cassell. I also had a long (like five minutes) conversation with Gene Peterson outside of the Scottie Pippen press conference which I talked my way into when I worked for microsoft sidewalk. And, in elementary school, I delivered Earl Campbell's newspaper every morning for a whole summer. He threw the football back and forth with my best friend and me once. And Ken Kennard (Oilers defensive lineman if memory serves) once babysat me for a whole afternoon. My mother had just sold him a townhome at Westbury Square and he watched me while she was in meetings.

Did I ever tell you about my night of passion with Teresa Heinz-Kerry? Yes, it's true. We met in the econo-lot bus line at the airport, had a nice conversation (she told me she voted for Bush in '00 and '04), then decided to take my luxury SUV for a spin. Well the next thing you know we find ourselves lubed up with ketchup all over our glorious naked bodies. I then ravaged her atop the Sam Houston statue in Hermann park after her security detail's car was hit by the Metro light rail train. If you don't believe me then, I just don't care. I don't lie.

    Yawn.

People here know me. The ones that care to know my name, exactly what I do for a living, etc. Many of them have met me in person, including Jorge. And they know I'm not a liar. There's pretty much nothing far-fetched about this story and it's really not that big a deal, but it did happen.

did i tell you about the night i met the queen of spain and george schultz? absolutely, ****ing true, my wife can verify...then we all went back to her place (the queen's) and had sex...actually, i might've made part of this up...but some of it is certainly true!

the part that's hardest for me to believe is that batman had a girlfriend, although he has taken pains to assure us that he has, you know, had sex...
