My wife is 16 weeks pregnant with our second child. We have a beautiful 15 month-old daughter named Grace. Yesterday we found out #2 is a boy! We're really struggling with the name, and to make matters more complicated, my brother and his wife are expecting a son in December. One of our favorite names is also on their list. So we don't scar the kid for life, which name do you guys like best?

I always thought I'd have a son named Max, but I'm not sure I like any of the long forms (Maxwell, Maxim, etc.). Can Max stand on it's own? Carl is a family name, my grandmother had a brother named carl who died at a young age, and it harkens back to the old country, Denmark. My wife loves Lucas, and I think it's got a certain elan to it, but I'm not sure about the diminutive, Luc or Luke?

The middle name in all cases would be "Noble."

What is your last name? That will help me determine what sounds good. If you do not want to share your last name, I completely understand.

Congratulations, dude! That's awesome! I bet you're really excited.

Personally, I like Lucas the best.

    Good luck! :)

Strickly from a sports perspective, Carl is by far the best first name.

Just from the top of my head:

Carl: Lewis, Yaz, Malone (spelled different, so if you do not like alone then you do not have to count him)

    Lucas/Luc/Luke: Longley, Robitaille, Walton, Ridnour

Max/Maxwell: Kellerman (could only think of an analyst)

Personally, I like Luke. It keeps with a Bible theme along with Grace.

Of the 3 I suggest Lucas.
Carl sounds too traditional and Max is more of a diminutive for Maxwel,Maximilius etc...(One day your kid is gona ask you "So Dad,what is my REAL name?" ;) )

I would go with Carl but I wouldn't have any of those 3 choices if it was me. I am more traditional with David, Robert, James, etc.

Max sounds like a good name for a dog, but not for a boy, IMO.

    LOL

I'd been wondering if your name was Max or you liked the movie "MadMax." Either way, great moniker.

Well, since you said the last name is Gallic-sounding, I'd go with Lucas.

But if you name him Max, gotta change the middle name to "Power".

It'd be awesome if your last name was Karlson. Then your son would be "Karl Karlson"....yeh.

Or Max Maxwell or Lucas Lucas.

My wife and I had trouble coming up with a name for our son. Everytime she found a name she liked I either did not like the name or had a bad kid in class with the name. We finally bought one of those name listing books and started going through it until we found one.
