The average age is something like 28 if I'm correct. They're the 3rd youngest in the NBA. Fin, and Howard are 28. Nash is 27, and Dirk is 22. That would mean that 3 for the top 4 are just entering their prime, and Dirk has barely scratched the surface. As for the past 11 years, you have to remember that Nelson didn't come in to the picture until after Kidd was traded for Finley. Then he traded away the whole team except for Fin, and Samaki Walker. So he is not to blame for the entire decade the previous management, and owners are. Since Nelson has taken over the Mavs have improved every year. The Rockets have a very bright future with Francis, and Catino, and maybe even Mo. If the Rockets could sign a front line player this offseason or next your team has the chance to be one of the elite.
