Now that the Mavs are out of the playoffs, I think they stand a chance of having to blow up that team. I know they have an owner in Cuban that will buy any player but they're running out of assets. They're way over the cap next season. I do expect Cuban to make a big run at Bosh. Dallas doesn't really have any assets other than Beaubois and Dampier's contract. Butler and DeShawn Stevenson both have an expiring contract but I don't see a big market out there for either of those guys. I hope this is the end of the road for them and I hope to see them slide down big time next year!
They have dirk as an asset. If he wanted to go there, toronto could ask for a straight swap of dirk and bosh. With dirk being 32 and bosh at 25 or so, it makes sense.
Mavs last 10 years of 50+ straight regular seasons wins leads to this.......... http://socialmedialawstudent.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/vader-fail1.jpg
Unless he's alienated too many of the players, they should keep Carlisle, who is a very good coach. But this series definitely wasn't his finest hour. After Dirk, their roster isn't exactly chock full of guys other teams want. With the mostly old players the Mavs have to trade, I don't think they can get Bosh from the Raptors. I expect them to be worse next season unless Cuban pulls a rabbit out of his hat.
I am not sure if bosh will join a dirkless dallas. That team in the west will be as bad as toronto in the east for many years.
I don't expect much changes. I think they expect Beaubois and Barerra to get better and Caron and Haywood to mesh better with the team. Cuban didn't sound like a guy ready to blow it up.
I don't think they'll blow it up yet, maybe when dirk retires they'll get rid of whoever is still around(like caron butler, who can't be your number one option, no sense keeping him if there's no dirk)
They are in the same position as the Rockets: they can only gain a top FA via sign and trade. They are also a very attractive destination for guys like Wade and Bosh, they have plenty of trade chips starting with Dampier. I expect them to make a big run at Wade and Bosh. I don't expect them to stand still, they will find a way to use Dampier.
Toronto will want our young assets over Dirk any day. Toronto wants to build for the future and have expressed interest in players such as Jordan Hill. Why would they want a 32 year old Dirk unless the team was ready to win now?
Dallas is not exactly a young team. If they blow it up, they have to start all the way from the bottom, unless they can somehow acquire some great young players with the current players that they have. Thank God we have Morey. This year was supposed to be a "rebuilding" year and yet we could've made the playoffs if we had one or two less injuries. That being said, we are easily a playoff team in the east.
Cuban will not trade Dirk. That's not going to happen. Dirk wants to win a championship and going to Toronto wouldn't help with that cause.
I think Carlisle was out coached by Pop. He kept Dirk in there too long. He should of let him sit. You can't have a guy play over 40 minutes and not give you more than what Kidd gave you. I think he's a great coach but I think he fell into trying to match Pop.
Haywood is a FA. I'm not sold Dallas will keep him. I think they'll try and use him in a SnT. I can't stand that stupid fly Barerra. I don't think he's that good either... He does have some speed though and always puts up numbers against us.
I'd agree some of the rotation decisions were...interesting. Benching Caron for a half. Keeping Kidd out there so long. Still, ultimately this is on the players and the Mavs front office. In an increasingly backcourt dominated NBA, the Mavs backcourt has seemingly gone downhill year after year. The Kidd trade was somewhat of a head-scratcher at the time, and is probably more so in retrospect. Jason Terry is still a great 6th man, but you saw what solid defense does to him. In a key play in the last minute of the game, and who do the Mavs turn to in the backcourt...Beaubois...and he turned the ball over. He had a solid game to that point and all, but that basically highlights their back-court issues. Dirk continues to dominate, Marion and Butler are solid enough at the 3, some 4, and Haywood is really a very serviceable center. Their questions should be, how do they improve their PG and SG spots?
They need better PG. This league is full of great PGs. I think they should go out and get Rubio or get Harris back...
You pretty much sum it up. They need a good wing player. K-Mart would of been perfect for them but that's not going to happen! The other thing the mavs struggle with is trying to sign old players. They need to get younger and they seem to be getting older. That's not going to win much....
I wish you guys could hear all of the whining going on up here today. And the number one whiner is Mark Cuban. He couldn't get a clue if a 10-ton one dropped out of the sky on top of him. His whine about the refs costing them the game last night was typical Cuban pointing the finger of blame everywhere but at himself. THIS was his team - he picked the players and the coach so he should STFU and accept what he's done. He also needs to learn to keep his butt up in the owner's suite and let his people do their jobs and stop going out getting players like Kidd and Dampier who gave them zip in this series. As long as he's the owner here, you can expect a yearly repeat of what went down last night.
I don't know what they do. But I do know that, whatever they do, if it doesn't work out...it will be the refs' fault.
They need a better GM. Those Nelson folks tend screw up a lot don't they? Cuban is going to blame everyone. He's always been that guy. He's a great owner in the sense of spending money on his team and caring but he sucks at letting someone do their job.
