I watched this again. The only thing I cannot understand is why the Oracle lives in the Matrix. Wouldn't the Matrix cop guys be able to find her with relative ease. I was a little confused about the other potentials. Where did they come from and who is pulling them out of the Matrix?
I was a little confused about the other potentials. Where did they come from and who is pulling them out of the Matrix? My guess would be other people like Morpheus. -- For some good info and questions on the Matrix, try http://www.movie-mistakes.com, search for The Matrix...
Some of it is suspending disbelief like in other films. Some, hopefully, will be explained in the next Matrix. Of course, the woman who played the Oracle died this past year ( ) so we'll have to see how they handle that.
When Neo first boarded the Nebiconezer (sp?), Morpheus told him there were other ships out there like his. The potentials are found just like neo was found. If you also remember they said they usually did not pull people out of the matrix as they got older because they could not handle the truth.
I always say the oracle as a renegade program in the matrix maybe not a human at all. THe programs have become . . . . human [like Agent Smith being obsessive...etc.] Rocket River
So the next time I watch, I'll look to see if the oracle has a tube sticking out of her neck. She bends over to put something in the oven. I',m sure I'll get a good look.
Whats amusing is we are so quick to critique a movie and say "thats impossible" or "that doesn't make sense". But yet if we critique real life, we have bigger and more baffeling questions.
How about this little plot-hole: The agents are able to enter into anyone who is still connected to the Matrix. No one was able to face an agent and survive except Neo. Why didn't one of the agents jump into Neo when he met Morpheous and kill all of the rebels there?
Hydra: Answer - because the Matrix/Agents cannot see the future, they can only guess at like humans do. If they knew Neo was going to be the One who brought down the Matrix ahead of time, then they would have killed him in his "crib", or before he even got there. No one knows the future. It is not preordained. It cannot be if Neo is to succeed. On the other hand, you've got the Oracle dishing out prophesies. I think what the first one showed was that these are not so much "prophecies" as they are "suggestions". If everything were preordained, and the Oracle saw the future, then she'da been more specific and Neo wouldn't have had to figure things out the hard way. Now, you'll say that she knew, but he had to figure it out himself... Wrong. If she knew where his destiny lay, that would mean that she could actually see the future, and that everything really was preordained. If so, then - assuming she's not evil - she would have told everyone else what the future held as well. She would have told them details - precise details - and nothing bad would have ever happened to anyone, because she could see the future, tell everyone, and everyone could avoid anything bad happeneing to them... Clearly, that's not the case. This series is really all about the whole Free Will v. Predistination debate. One reason I love it.
They would have killed him easy, but they were trying to track morpheus. They didn't know he'd be the one. I'm comfortable with that answer. Another question is why couldn't they find him in the office cubicle? They were looking all over for him, but he was still connected to the matrix, so how come they didn't know where he was? I found that to be a little loppy too. The only answer I can think of is that Neo somehow knew of the matrix already (he supposedly has an inkling of what is to come) and was bending it into his favor. Overall, the movie covers almost every question you could have. It was put together very well for a movie that wasn't a book beforehand. Books are usually well thought out and have very few holes. Movies are more suspect.
Yeah, what would have happened in Empire Strikes Back if Luke had killed Darth Vader? He goes back to Dagobah, tells Yoda and Obi-Wan "Yo, bow DOWN, b****es, I killed Darth Vader!"... ...and then they tell him, "Er.... yeah... he was sort of your dad"....? Lots of movies have holes. Don't even get me started on National Lampoon's Vacation.
I think there is one movie that we can all agree is perfectly solid with no plot holes or errors by the director or the writers. Spaceballs.
They don't need to know he is the One. They were looking for Morpheous. They obviously knew that Neo had some connection to Morpheous. All they had to do was wait until Neo was talking to Morpheous (the red and blue pill scene) and then jump into his body and grab Morpheous, as well as kill Trinity, Switch, and Apoc. Instead, they just let him go.
Go back to the end of the movie. They did NOT want to kill Morphous ... they wanted the mainframe codes from him. I suspect they had a quick way out in the "blue/red" pill scene, so they couldn't do anything about it. At the end of the movie, they had to cut the main line to trap them. It was an ambush and well planned out. These two thoughts work well together, as the theory that Neo had the preordained ability to hide from the agents even when he was part of the Matix. Basically, they didn't have enough time to cover all the plot holes ... so they did the next best thing ... make a sequal to cover them!
No good, my man. Remember that in the Matrix, nobody has tubes in their neck. The agents don't, the people who haven't been freed don't, Neo and Morpheus, don't, etc. It's only in the Nebudchanezzar (sp?) that the remnants of the tubes are seen.
Like the sig dylan, I totally agree. The NBA on NBC theme song beats the **** out of any Bob Dylan song...
Dylan, you are right. In the Matrix they won't exist. That makes sense. Damn it. I guess the Oracle could be one of four things 1) A former slave - I don't see how this explains much, but it's possible. If she was free she could move about in the Matrix without being caught. It did look like she had a permanent home tho. 2) A renegade program in the Matrix - This would explain why she knows so much about the matrix and what will happen. It would also explain why she'd be stuck in the Matrix, yet not be caught. 3) A Human from Zion - I doubt it, because if she was human, how would she be able to get into the Matrix. 4) Some mystical Angel - God works in wonderous ways.
I think this one because . . . . I figure there has to be some contamination in the programs and some help inside to give the humans some help. . . . I think it explains her permanance. . . . I think in the car ride with Neo on the way to meet Morpheus. . they Jammed the Agent's signals. . . . . I did not quite understand why only certain phones worked to get them out . .. why their Cell phones didn't etc. Rocket River
