NBA star Marcus Camby charged with mar1juana possession in Pearland school zone By KRISTI NIX Houston Community Newspapers | 0 comments Two-time NBA all-star Marcus Camby, 37, of the Portland Trail Blazers, was arrested by Pearland police Monday and charged with mar1juana possession. Police officials say officers pulled over Camby’s black Porsche around midnight on when he was spotted driving north on Cullen Boulevard with a sun screen device blocking the front window. Officers then questioned Camby and a passenger, later identified as Kendal Lance Johnson, 25. Officers say they noticed the smell of mar1juana. Camby gave permission for the car to be searched and police said they discovered what appeared to be several mar1juana cigarettes and a baggie with a small amount of the same substance hidden under the front seat. Both suspects denied ownership of the mar1juana. Camby and Johnson were arrested and later charged with possession of mar1juana in a drug-free zone, a class A misdemeanor offense. Both suspects were released after posting $2,000 bond. A two-time member of the NBA all-defensive team, Camby was also named the Defensive Player of the Year during the 2006–07 NBA season, leading the league in blocked shots per game. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and a possible $4,000 fine.
Wait... they were driving through a school zone with a sun visor up? Not a cool thing to be doing with Mary J in the car with you.
It's a stretch to call it a School Zone offense or Drug when it happened at midnight. That's pretty stupid. If he were standing around dealing weed....ok....
So what's the deal with this "drug-free zone"? I've seen them posted around, but not like mar1juana is legal anywhere. So if you happen to get busted in one of these drug-free zones, you face a stiffer penalty?
wait im confused....sun screen as in that silver thing people put up that covers the whole window?? How in the world could he see where he was driving??
I would expect something like this from a guy like Beasley or maybe Terrence Williams but Camby? Isn't dude like 40 years old? Time to grow up big fella!
you could be arrested for having an empty pipe with weed residue. WTF is wrong with Weed and why do you have to "grow up" to enjoy it? Lawyers, businessmen and Doctors smoke up so you have no place to judge.
nba player gets caught with weed. this should no longer be news. driving down the backstreets of pearland at midnight is a crime in itself. those guys will pull anybody over regardless of race or gender.
Old man:You know back in the 60's, we used to smoke this **** on the street. Cops didn't say nothin', Hell, they were gettin' high to; everybody was good. It wasn't the thing to do because it was the thing to do, ya know. It was the thing to do because it got you high. Can you dig it? TJ: Oh I feel ya, yeah, I feel ya. That's why I'm doin' it. I feel ya. Man, you cool as **** mister. I hate to do it, but I got to charge ya 60 bucks. Old man:60 bucks?! Man, I remember when a dime bag cost a dime, you know what I mean? Do you know how much condoms cost back in the day? TJ:How much? Old manon't know, we never used them.
Driving around with the windshield blocked by a sun-screen seems like the bigger transgression. But, if the weed made him think that was a good idea then yeah, he needs to grow the **** up.
They should call it like it is, Driving.Being.Black. This happens a lot and a lot more than is being reported. The cops saw a black in a porsche and decided to check him out to see if he was dirty. Searched the car found the weed and now its some bsstory about a visor. Don't forget we're talking pearland which isn't that far from being a little racist town. My uncle is a doctor and my other uncle moved there in the 70s and he used to get pulled over every time he went to pearland because he was in a benz. This was going on in the late 80's. I know pearland is more diverse now,but some of that same element still remains.
This happens in Houston period... But as long as you dont initiate contact with them , you'll be fine... Talk all you want but dont pose a threat to them physically...
