ROFLMAO unintended comedy at it's highest form That power line may indeed be live and can electrocute me, but why not take a free shot to find out? That woman at the bar who is coming on to me may indeed have every STD known to mankind, but why not take a free shot to find out? That dog may have indeed mauled everyone who has tried to pet it, but why not take a free shot to find out?
What is funny is to see people that are willing to take on Artest but not willing to take on Marbury. Look at it this way, if you add two negatives you get a positive. It is probably moot anyway, we don't have a roster spot for him, right now.... DD
Not only that statistically, Marbury is a better shooter than Rafer career wise. If you compare them career wise....Marbury field % is in 40% to 45%, Rafer can not even get to 40%!! And Marbury go to the line twice as much. I would take Marbuy any day over Rafer.
I understand it may be a big risk, but right now, with Rafer's health being a big question, maybe getting Stephon for nothing wouldn't be that bad...
Teams are better when Artest plays. Team are worse when Marbury plays, and far better when he leaves.
I'm all for taking in guys with past trouble, but only to a certain point. Some people just need to mature, some just are what they are. Stephon has burned bridges with way too many teams. He's been hated by all his teammates, not just the ones with fragile egos like Amare and Marion. When true blue professionals like Kurt Thomas hate your guts you're officially a cancer. Coaches can't work with him, fans can't stand him, and his style of play has never been conducive to winning. What exactly do we stand to gain from signing him? Even in his prime he'd be a bad fit for the Princeton offense we run. He's good for pick and rolls and dominating the ball until the shot clock runs down, neither of which we plan on using much. The idea that a guy in his 30's is going to change his ways, especially when he is only response to criticism is to play like his "old-self", is laughable. He doesn't want to change. He doesn't fit our team. And he hasn't even played on a high level in for two seasons now. Why waste the time? Why waste the roster spot?
sounds like you knew everything about Marbury. if it is all about winning, Rafer was not working either no matter how he cared about it.
Sign him. Low risk, high reward. If he pouts we'll just marginalize him like we did steve francis. Besides, anyone saying artest is a cancer is just exaggerating. He's a psycho, but a good guy and a hard worker. We can handle them both.
Storm Surge, that's why u r a rookie. Rafer is as big of a knuckle head (driving drunk with lights off, wiping parking lot attendant but, stabbing people) as Stephon and has way less skills. We basically substitute an avg knuckle head for a motivated one time 20+ pts a game scorer. Give me NY with Artest and Starybury (Vernon and Mario all over again)
Why people don't understand that is beyond me. We have 40 pages about francis making a comeback, yet they complain about a guy like marbury. Marbury is like moss, he's a good player on a good team and vice versa on a bad team. People didn't think a team could win with j.williams, walker, and payton. In the 80's, mcadoo was called a ballhog, yet he blended with the lake show. If ur team has strong leadership, u don't worryabout a guy like marbury. Who cares if everyone gets along, win and go about ur way. Allen didn't get along with garnett and all the cussing and stuff, but they won. If u can add high quality talent for cheap, u do it.
He's still much better than Alston or Francis... better than any PG on this team. I'd definitely give him a shot if he wanted the vet min.
Stephon is a knucklehead with every team he's been in, mostly on court. He has made everyone hate him wherever he's been (coaches, teammates, fans, media). Every team he has been on he has come and made them worse and better when he left them. Not once has he shown a single sign or desire to change. Rafer has done none of the above things. All he has made is mistakes off court and self-exploded a bit on Toronto, on himself for the most part. As a matter of fact, without him last year we were substantially worse and it showed, specially on the Utah series. Rafer > Marbury for this team. Period.
Amen Leeb, it is mind boggling, but I put it down to people who have played the game, and been part of a team and seen how malcontents can be tamed with the proper leadership, and more importantly a winning situation. I think others just go by his bad past, and there is certainly a lot of that, but we are talking about a low risk situation for the Rockets....he is better than any PG on the Rockets by a long shot....he knows how to play the game, and with a coach like Adelman, I think he fits in...... But, it is probably moot at this point anyway.... No offense, but Marbury has always been better than Rafer, always.... DD
Marbury was once a nice talent in the league, being one of the quickest guards off the dribble and he was once an okay playmaker. However, you know a player is all about the money and making a name for himself when he leaves Kevin Garnett to play for the New Jersey Nets who had nobody except Kieth Van Horn at the time. There is no room for somebody like that on the Rockets. Even when we had a healthy Steve Francis, who is a very similar to Marbury on the court, he was more than willing to sacrifice his game for Yao because he knew Yao was the answer to making the playoffs and thats what happened. Our team now is full of unselfish and for the most part good character guys (We'll have to wait and see how Ron Artest acts this year, but I have confidence in him.) Marbury would just be another Ricky Davis; a team killer. Marbury will be remembered as a talent that was completely wasted, a guy who put himself before the team off the court and a guy who makes every team he's ever been on worse. And for still believing he is the best point guard in the NBA, when he can't win or make teammates better.
