yes, because manu is the reason san antonio won in 99 and 03 when he averaged 7 a game. CLEARLY, he is the reason they win championships. i can see clearly now the rain is gone

62-8 so far in favor of Manu. This is not even remotely close or worthy of a debate.

Melo fans should start looking for the "Mercy Rule" button to end this poll.

Is that some sort of defensive rating? Clutch free throw shooting? Not sure.

Melo probably has more talent than Manu. I doubt many people would argue against that. At least with Ginobili you know you're getting a complete effort on both sides of the court. If Melo isn't handling the ball or taking shots, he's useless to a team, especially one with other stars.

What kind of legacy will Melo leave when he's done? I can see him as the next Glenn Robinson if he doesn't develop a better work ethic.

Is there any issue with Carmelo's work ethic? None that I've heard. I think he just needs to play with more control and maturity.

Who else did they have that we're forgetting? David Robinson? Bowen was more effective. Avery? Elie? They didn't need Manu because they had other contributors.

A better thread might compare Manu with Tony Parker and who we'd rather have between them. Success is how we're measuring these guys and they look better to us having won. It doesn't help that Melo-the-loser has a bad attitude. Not a guy who will rock the vote.

He doesn't look like he's in very good shape and when he doesn't play any D... I just assume. The way you put it was probably more accurate.

I understand that, really I do, and manu seems to be a guy who hustles, it makes a difference. i just don't want people to discount how good melo is, for all his supposed attitude problems, he has improved, he supposedly came into to this season in the best shape in his career so far, and again dude is only 23, 24 in two days but he had a great season for a 23 year old.

I think you're forgetting the original intent of this thread. He essentially asked who best fits the "win now" approach when building a team that's ready to compete for a championship.

Given Ginobili's impressive playoff resume and overall game he's the easy choice.

Ok, I regret calling him Melo-the-loser just because he hasn't won yet. If I were a Nuggets fan, I'd know that it'd be hard to trade him and get equal value, but also you don't want to be at the mercy of a guy growing up. I'd be frustrated at the "when" and terrified by the "if".

You do have to give a guy with his talent some leeway. I can't believe the guy is younger than me and then imagining being a career professional at 18...

if your poll was for now and the future, maybe you'd have a few more for Melo. Ginobili got hurt a bit this year and has probably already seen his peak.

But yeah for your poll (i.e. only near future and not counting what you might have to give up), Ginobili 100%

A closer poll for near future and not counting what you might have to give up might be Manu vs....KG? Or if you want a young guy, Manu vs. (need to think of one)

I'm curious what the results of this poll would have been after game 2 of the WCF.

Reactionary for sure, but it takes more than a couple games to change people's perception so that we'd ignore Manu's positive impact or Melo's drive. Well, usually anyway. We're not going to call Manu a quitter for losing 2 road games. He'll have just lost to a better team.

Higher seeded teams are supposed to win their home games, aren't they? If the Spurs win the series, will it be considered an upset?

I'd take Melo since he is a better player. I don't know how anyone can call Melo a loser. He has made it to the playoffs in the West, every year he has been in the league. He has the same record as Tmac.

Manu is a winner because he has Pops, Duncan and Parker.

Melo has Karl, Iverson, and Kmart.

Manu almost won final MVP in 2005. He's such a winner. He won 2004 Olympics. He's a winner and very clutch.

I will choose Manu over KG even if KG has way better stats.
