How's your management at work? How do you feel you are being treated? Are there too much politics going on in your department? Alright so here's the deal guys, I've been working at my company for almost 2 years. Me and my co-workers at first were all contractors. I originally applied for the higher position but they gave me the lower position. The first time, this guy that was working on the position I originally applied for got fired and I told my boss that I want that position which I was very well qualified for. They then hired another person for that position so I went to my boss and was like, "whats going on?" and my boss told me "they were going to hire on full time a few positions and my current position at the time was one of the position that were on the list and not the one I wanted. So I thought okay that made sense. Then to find out when I got hired that position went full time as well. So I was already itchy about that but I'm a team player so whatever, I just continue doing my thing. Anyways the guy that is at that current position just got a new job and is putting in his 2 weeks notice this week. I am really expecting them to offer me that position and if they don't, I am asking for suggestions on what kind of actions I should take because I would be really pissed of if they didnt. Thanks for your input
I think you should flood your car, take that money and open a poker room. Spoiler All kidding aside, there's really not much you can do. It's up to your boss to fill that position and he should know who qualifies.
You can't see what goes in their minds, but you sort of kind of answered your own question: "keep doing [your] own thing." Except do it a lot better for this next two weeks. Don't set your expectations TOO high, or you'll be let down. Don't burn any bridges if you do not get this job. There are some real reasons as for why you didn't get that job at the beginning, so see if you have improved those since they snubbed you the first time. Just keep working diligently, punctually, efficiently, proactively, and responsibly these next few days so that their short-term memory has all that in their registers. If you can go to lunch or maybe breakfast with someone who has a say-so or a hand in how upper management decides thing, ask discretely what they're looking for or what you can do to get the job. Don't be upset after the results, and thank them for giving you a chance whether you get it or don't get it, but tell them to at least give you a shot again (interview, talk, etc.). Good luck with this, sir.
I would take the position of taking a position if its a current position and position yourself for a full time position so you will be in position of having a position or maybe not.
But all the bathrooms are clean and the coffee/cups are already all stocked in the kitchen.. theres really not that much to do around here, I guess I can sweep the floors for now..
Maybe they feel that you're more valuable to the company in your current position. I know it sucks but it happens that way quite often.
Not to sound rude, but why do you think you're entitled to the higher position? Just length of employment?
because my last company I was working in that position, and I applied for that position when I got here, but they filled it up before me and wanted to hire me as well so they gave me a different position.
Funny how MONSTER.com just published THIS here article: http://career-advice.monster.com/in...ing-Coworker/article.aspx?WT.mc_n=CRMUS000096 Read it... it may be YOU, Mr. Lucky*, sir. *No, I don't want to write the three K's.
Campaign for the position, and if they still don't give it to you, they obviously don't think as much of you as you think or like. Bust out the resume and get a different job.
I really dont mean to be rude here, but if you have been there all along and they are still passing you over to hire people from the outside, it is quite possible that they do not think you would be ideal for that position. It could be a personality thing, it could be a personal thing or a professional reason for it. If you do not get the position this time around, then I am guessing it is time to get the message they are trying to send you and 1) remain in the position you are in and stop agitating for a new one OR 2) start looking for another job ASAP and just move on. Best of luck to you
If they don't give you the position, find out why. If you don't like and understand their reasonings for not giving it to you, peace outta there.
or: Take the position of taking a higher position if its not the current position then position yourself for a full time lower position to take the position of taking a position when it is a position, your current position , may be the position to position yourself for next time it comes around. IMO it does sound like you deserve the position. Maybe just assume the position and see what comes up. Hope this helps!
i would put myself in the position that would most benefit the position you want. Also, sometimes the position you want may not actually put you in the right position. People say its all about positioning but really, your positing may end up being the right position for you to be where you ultimately want to end up. At least, that's my position on your position.
Always keep your resume current and always be on the lookout for a new, better day gig. Loyalty & work ethic mean nothing anymore. All managers ever want is their asses kissed and their bellies rubbed. If you don't want to do that, move on...or become a consultant.
Maybe if you shaved your legs and wore shorter skirts to work, then they will have to view your position in a different position, thus forcing them to juxtaposition their rankings of candidates for the new position. Hope you get it !
