This is Craig's last year, isn't it. In many ways, he's the heart and soul of the franchise, and well respected by his team mates. He could finish the season as player coach. He certainly knows the game and the team, and this move would bring some energy back into the clubhouse. Why not try it.
It may be his last year with us, but not playing. He's already said if we don't keep him he will go somewhere else.
Great Idea. It just might work. I dont know how long it is going to take for him to realize he's hurting the team defensively.
yeah..he's killed us this season. give me a break..the guy makes his first error...and it was costly, no doubt. i'm not going to defend it. but craig biggio has been a positive on this team so far this season.
this was his first error of the season. does he have great range? no. does he have a great arm? no. was he playing way out of his position in CF...absolutely. but biggio still made some very nice catches this season that were well above average, including his play out in left to end the one victory they were able to steal away from the rangers. again...ultimately, biggio has been a positive for us this season.
He'll be fine in LF, it does take a little time to get used to the different breaks on balls hit to left as opposed to center. And he's still the best leadoff man the Stros have. He may want to coach some day, but it ain't happening now.
Head exploding. This is what I get for checking the BBS during lunch while we're in beautiful Alabama.
I agree, mostly, but... The play in left to end Sunday's game was not a great play. Why? To most other OF's, that would have been a routine play. Biggio's lack of range made it into a spectacular looking play. But anyone with range gets to that ball much easier.
i disagree....that may be the case with CF's. but not LF's. that's not an easy, routine play for a lance berkman...or a barry bonds...or a manny ramirez. or a host of other lumbering leftfielders.
It's not about the size of the outfielder, it's the instincts. I played many many years in the outfield, and on that particular play, Biggio took an awful route to the ball. Because of his lack of instincts out there, he got a bad jump, which forced him to take a bad route to the ball. That's why he had to reach across his body, with his glove turned the wrong way, to make the catch. Most OF's would have taken a step or two to their right as they approached the ball, which would have them coming straight at the ball with your glove open and parallel to the ground. It was a routine play for a decent outfielder, especially one who supposedly can play center.
by the way...he just hit his 2nd homer of the day. yeah....we gotta get him out of there quick! he's killing us.
Let him go somewhere else. He hit two homers today but he should not be an everyday player in this league!
OK, I'll bite. Fact! Biggio cannot hit good pitching because he has to cheat to compensate for his bad speed! Fact! Biggio is one of the worst outfielders in the majors! (covering ground..) Fact! Biggio has one of the worst arms in the majors! Fact! Biggio can't steal bases on a consistent bases! Fact! Biggio would not be an every day player on any other team in the majors! Opinion: Let him go! We would be a better team without him!
