As much as I am confident the Rockets will make the playoffs, I am trying to stay humble. Therefore, as of 3-12-2008 our magic number to clinch the playoffs is at 12. (thats if Denver wins tonight)

    GO ROCKETS!

If we win that many games the rest of the way, we're guaranteed to make the playoffs. Once it's at zero, you've clinched a spot.

Rockets wins/Nuggets losses just have to add up to 12.

I'll use the magic number coming into tonight's game, which was 13. Take the teams loss records (example, Rockets have 20 losses, the Nuggets, the best team not in the playoffs has 26). Take 26-20 you get 6. That's the number of games separating the Rockets and Nuggets. Now take the number of games left (coming into tonight it was 19) and subtract 6 from it. 19-6 equals 13. That's the magic number. If the Rockets AND Nuggets win then there would be 18 games left. Then it would be 18-6, magic number is 12.
