For those who just can't wait to see if the Rockets finally get into the playoffs.. I've decided to start the MAGIC NUMBER THREAD!! Currently, the Rockets have 17 games left. Ofcourse, if we win all 17 games, we are in. If we win 16 games and Phoenix wins out.. we still get in. Therefore, the MAGIC NUMBER is 16!!!!! For those who don't know how magic numbers work.. For every time the Rockets win a game or the Suns lose a game, the number decreases by 1. Here we go! 16
The problem is, if the Suns lose all 16 games then the magic number is zero and we're "in" ...... only we also lost 16 straight games and are ahead of the Suns. But then we failed to notice Golden State had completely passed us by and is in the playoffs. Good thought, but I don't think the "Magic Number" works here yet.
Good point Clutch. This magic number should be the number to beat the Suns. It could be really fun though.
Very true Clutch.. This is only for the Suns. However we can keep another number for the Warriors if you'd like ROCKETS V SUNS MAGIC NUMBER: 16 ROCKETS V WARRIORS MAGIC NUMBER : 14
heh, I've been keeping track of the magic number for almost two months now. Magic Number to Clinch Position Ahead Of : Phoenix - 16 Golden St - 13 Seattle - 12 Any combination of Rocket's wins, or losses by those teams shall move the number slightly towards zero. When the number reaches zero, the Rockets have clinched that they shall finish ahead of the team in question. And before y'all ask - I get bored, and do math problems like this in my spare time.
N.B. - I am assuming the Rockets take the tiebreaker vs Seattle and Golden St later this year. If they do not, and either team takes the tiebreaker from them the magic number increases by two.
If Utah dropped behind Rockets, then you have to keep watching the magic numbers for 3 teams. Just take the magic number fro #9 seed, which is currently Suns.
Good work Puedlfor. I forgot that we have owned GS this year and already own the tiebreaker making the Magic# 13 against them.
technically speaking, we do not own the tiebreaker agains GS just yet. however, practically speaking, it is nearly impossible for the teams to get into a position where they are tied, with Golden St taking the tiebreaker.
You also have to keep in mind three way ties. For example, what happens if Utah, Houston and Phoenix all tie for the last two playoff positions?
"ROCKETS V SUNS MAGIC NUMBER: 16 ROCKETS V WARRIORS MAGIC NUMBER : 14" can someone update this every night?
I started the thread so I dont mind doing it. ROCKETS V SUNS MAGIC NUMBER: remains at 16 ROCKETS V WARRIORS M#: drops 1 pt to 15!
