You guys are crazy. MJ could easily average 40+ a game if he wants to, even when he was double/tripple teamed every game. TMac is great, but not that great.
The guy can just turn it on when he wants...he looks in the eyes of the defenders and basically says i am going to score on you no matter what you do...takes their heart away.. He has a lot to go before he can be compared to Jordan but some of the qualities are definetly there....
FICK YOU He didn't get called for any travels. Francis gets called for his 5 step stupidities. Mac is the best ballhandler in the NBA (behind iverson). His handle is sick and he's 6 8" mofo
Don't compare him to Jordan. You didn't trade Jordan for him. We traded Francis for him. Are you happy with that? Bottomline is, he's the best perimeter player the NBA has to offer right now. We don't need to compare him to Jordan, the same way we don't want to compare Yao to Shaw. Yao and Tracy are a great duo.
He was making a joke. Jordan used to travel all the time and never got called for it so Tmac can't be Jordan.
Macfan doesn't get jokes. T-Mac's performance was Jordonesque. But it's just one performance. Yall will know when T-mac is anywhere near Jordon's level (i.e. the greatest and highest level ever), yall will know.
If Tmac leads us to the ring this year, he is definitely in the talk of comparing with Jodan. Now James and Jordan, that was ridiculous.
I think TMac is more like Hakeem than Jordan. Jordan makes teammates better by using the in your face style TMac is show by example, quite and stellar
Hey,I look at M.J. as the best,by far.All I'm saying is that we're getting peaks now at Tracy's upside in(and out of) the playoffs, and while most of us have thought about titles w/Tmac and Yao,it's another thing to watch the reality unfold.Tracy and M.J. ARE similiar players and whether Yao "dominates" or not,I feel we have an excellent chance for a title THIS year due to our stud.
TMac I'd say has the bball IQ and physical talent to be as good or better than jordan, but his intensity is inconsistent... He could have quite easily played harder in the regular season to make himself a serious MVP contender but didn't... I'm glad to see that he is at least very focused for the playoffs..... Jordan played with an intense passion every minute he was out on the court. I saw videos of a practice they had in the summer for the Dream Team in 1992, and he was working his tail off guarding players in a scrimmage.. that guy did not ever let up..
Some of you guys are amusing. Take a step back and realize what MJ was. Tmac has all the potential in the world to be as good as MJ. But they just can't be compared right now at all.
Agree with everything you said, except that part about us winning it all without Yao being dominant. I have said before and will maintain that the Rockets can win playoff series, and be competitive in the playoffs, but if they want to WIN IT ALL, it will have to be during Yao's prime years, when he is (hopefully at least) going to be a dominant center. And people are getting touchy about the Jordan thing, they are NOT saying McGrady "IS" Jordan in terms of Jordan's accomplishments etc, they are rather saying that the performance he put on (and multiple others throughout the season) have been "Jordan-esque". NO ONE player in NBA history compares to Jordan (as far as backcourt players are concerned), so it is not a "slight" to say he is not at Jordan's level yet. Of course, some are conveniently forgetting that it took Jordan about 8 seasons into the league to win a ring with a stellar superstar by his side. Of course, some are also conveniently forgetting that Jordan had the luxury of developing in college, and then start right off the bat when he jumped into the NBA. T-Mac never even got that chance until he went to Orlando to have his own team, Toronto didn't provide that opportunity. The thing is people always want to compare current players to previous greats, and that is really not always fair. T-Mac will be the "1st T-Mac" to which future young talents will be compared to him as a seperate identity, not as a "Jordan-like" player. People (10 or 15 years from now) will be saying that a young high school kid coming out and doing damage in the league "reminds me of Tracy McGrady, but he is not in his league yet". As for the rings and stuff, that is not the only measure of greatness, or otherwise Barkley, Malone, and Ewing would not be considered as 3 of the all-time great to whom young players today are compared. The ring is important, but it doesn't define you as a great player or not. Winning the rings elevates you that much more, but it is not the end-all of every player's career if you don't win it. THAT is why I said Jordan is in a league by himself among all the greats in the league, because he was such a prolific winner. So I think people need to put things into perspective when they make comparisons to Jordan, because apparently the league is making the same mistake salivating over a replacement for MJ, which they will never find. Why? Because with soooo much young talent coming into the NBA, I think their will be sooo many great players in the league that the league will be "collectively" better than ever before, the Renaissance is coming, make no mistake about it, but it won't be two or three players dominating the league like it used to be before, it will be 20 dominant superstars competing against one another.
Jerry36 is still pissed, because he turned 40 this year. Jerry40? j/k There is no player in the league that you could make the comparisons to MJ, except T-Mac.
You mean he should have did what he did in Orlando: pad his stats and single-handedly dominate games while ignoring his teammates in the process so he could be impressing the "SportCenter" crowd and the wonderfully "fair and balanced" national media? I think you are dismissing how hard T-Mac played this season to not only remake his image and right the wrong, but to be a more "complete team player". And JVG recognized that, and he praised T-Mac for it more than once. If you remember, MJ had to take his scoring down and involve his teammates more in order for the Bulls to become winners. He started forgetting about the individual accomplishments and remade his image from a "selfish" do-it-all player to a guy who can make "everyone around him better", it took MJ lots of time to figure that out, and when he did, his team took off, and his championship aspirations were fulfilled. May be you should think for a minute before you make such a comment. The only thing that hurt him stats wise was the first month+ of the season, because, again, he was being respectful of Yao and wanted to be a better "teammate". And despite the fact that it did hurt him statistically, he won me over as a guy who was truly unselfish and humble and came into town wanting to do things the "right" way. Hakeem never asked for individual awards, he just went out there and proved everyone wrong. McGrady has kept a similar approach this season, and hopefully the winning will follow along with his effort. You don't see him pounding his chest and saying, "I AM the best in the league. Where is Kobe and Lebron or KG? They are losers, I am the only winner. And the MVP should be mine or Shaq's. Amare says he should be an MVP candidate? I will show that mofo in the 2nd round" He didn't go Marbury-like or Amare-like proclaiming himself to be the "best". You are also forgetting that he was on a brand new team that kept shuffling players throughout the season, and not until January did the Rockets have a stable team, and you saw the results (the 2nd best or so record in the league since that point on, which will be the Rockets team you will see throughout next season, if not even better if we add a good PF). Next season, and mark my words, with a healthier T-Mac, his stats won't only go up, but because of the chemistry he has with his teammates now he is going to be a solid MVP candidate, and the team will be even better than they are this season. So be patient, stop making misleading remarks (that McGrady's own coach would refute), and let's hope drink to a bright, bright future...Where are the shades?
Let's see.... M.J. - Tmac = approximately 40lbs i'd guess. Seriously though...M.J. is argubably the greatest to ever play. Might be a little early to put T-Mac up there yet. I think he's a few accolades short right now.
HEY! Stop making fun of my boy Steve-O, it isn't his fault that his maturity level has not progressed since he was 16 Seriously though, I love Stevie, I just wish he would right his mind, take some kind of a responsibility for his own actions, and be a leader for his teams ONCE in his whole life. I still have hope he will do that down the line in his career. He is really a good guy inside, but he suffers from being a hard-headed guy who refuses to yield in to learn and better himself. "That is just the way I am" is not going to do it, he needs to take a page out of McGrady's book and show willingness to learn and be coached, and then he will unleash all his abilities, butnot until then.
Reminds of what Bum said about Earl, "He may not be in a class by himself, but it doesn't take long to call the roll." TMac career isn't "equal" to MJ's career, but TMac's career isn't over. They are not at the same place on the road, but they are on the same road. And there few who are. They are both amazing. It is a rare treat that we are experiencing. TMac has been my favorite NBA player since he came into the league, now the rest of you know why. I still can't believe Orlando traded him.
