I hope so too. Luther was a always a good guy here. Never complained about playing time. Always a professional. And he will always be remembered for that dunk over Turiaf. hmmm..... I love head (I do )... but have to disagree with that. He will forever be an undersized SG. Needs work on his handles and decision making skills.
Didn't watch many Heat games last year but did he even get much playing time after we let him go? Still can't believe we passed on David Lee for this guy and the comparisons to Ray Allen when he was coming out of college were upsurd, his jumpshot is so unorthudoxed, Allen's is the purest.
Good for Luther. I think he is least effective at the point guard spot, though. I can continually recall him bringing the ball up right before the half-court line and stopping his dribble. It used to drive JVG nuts!!! At most, Luther is a great spot up shooter. If you give him a little window to dribble and put up a shot, he's got a decent stroke. He cannot take Andre Miller's spot if he chooses to leave though. Luther leading a backcourt would lead to too many turnovers within 48 minutes.
you highlight tough defender and laugh... but he is a good defender. He wouldn't have seen the court at all when JVG was here if he wasn't.
I was reading the descriptina and thinking "who is this imposter and what did he do with the real Luther?" Of course, Luther is a good shooter and pretty atheletic, but he simply doesn't have handles to either un the point or create off the dribble. Reports were he did well scoring off back-cuts and off-the-ball movements when Adelman tried the "Princeton offense" upon first arriving in Houston. Unfortunately, that system never quite worked with the Rockets stars. As for his D: he plays hard, but his size is simply insufficient to defend wings on a lot of nights. It was painful seeing him get posted. He can probably do well in a reserve role, where the team can hide him in certain matchups, or next to a bigger point guard.
I can't agree with that. I remember him as a horrible defender though that might be because I still have nightmares about everyone posting him up and scoring every time like he wasn't even there. He isn't particularly quick laterally either so his perimeter defense wasn't all that great either. He wasn't Steve Novak or Brian Cook bad but that's not saying much. But it's funny that he has gotten a reputation as a capable point guard and a good defender. I remember at one point while he was here there were rumors about him being traded to the Lakers and Lakers fans were excited they'd be getting a younger Derek Fisher. But I hope it works out for him in Philly.
luther head had the worst pump fake i ever saw. it was like he was trying to get a travel called on him LOL.
The Sixers have Jrue Holliday for the PG position, but maybe Luther will start there until Holliday gets acclimated to the NBA (which he obviously wasn't during the summer league).
The Sixers will be very disappointed if they expect Luther to play well at PG. Calling him a "tough defender" is laughable. They better hope Lou Williams steps it up big time.
