I wouldn't hold out much hope for Jimerson ever helping this ball club much. I just don't think a guy that Ks that much in the minors will ever be able to adjust to major league pitching.

I've been to a few Express games this year, and I think we should give Royce Huffman a shot. He's been in the Houston system for like 5 or 6 years now, and is putting together a nice season up here in Round Rock. He's a utility guy and can play just about every position.

Well the team is playing well as of late, so I don't think it's worth it to change anything. If Lane starts to struggle again then maybe you give Luke Scott a chance. But right now, I wouldn't mess with anything. And I think the reason Willy hasn't stolen much is because for much of the season he was hitting in front of Berkman.

That is a fair point...he steals, Berkman walks....

Luke Scott is a perfect example of a AAAA player. He's too good for AAA, but can't make it in the majors. If Charlton Jimerson started an entire season in the majors, he would probably own the single season strikeout record.

BA is a poor measure of offensive production. He's still getting on base at like a .350 clip.

No batting average is not a poor measure of offensive production. Walks don't drive in runs. Lane has turned it around for the past week but he better keep it up or Lamb will take his spot. Lane is hitting .159 with RISP and .091 with RISP and 2 outs. Lane is only pace for 67 RBI's which is horrible for a corner outfielder.

So, we know this because he played for 2 months in the majors?????? Come on, players come up and down a lot before they get comfortable.

Heck it took Burke a whole season.

Luke Scott is about to turn 28, that's why the situation is different from Burke's. If the Astros considered him to be a legit prospect, he would have been called up long ago with the way the outfielders have been struggling this year.

Run a multiple regression analysis. Use team batting stats, and find out which correlates more with runs scored: batting average or on base percentage.

RBI's are a terrible way to measure offensive production. The statistic relies on having runners on base for the hitter, something outside of the hitter's control.

Luke Scott hit another home run tonight when the Rocket pitched. He now has 19 HRs...how many does Lane have again?

While I think OBP is a better barometer than BA, I would like to point out that the following:

    1) It is an adjusted BA.
    2) Place in the batting order can greatly influence both BA and OBP in a similar way that runners on base affect RBIs. Odds are if you don't have any power behind you, the pitcher will try to nibble.

Scott is in the same boat as Lane was in the past few seasons, alot of potential but no spot to play him everyday, especially on a team that is trying to contend. Even if our top 3-4 of's go down, Garner prob still won't play him....here are the guys he's been playing in the OF....excludes Berkman

    Wilson
    Taveras
    Burke
    Lane
    Palmeiro
    Lamb
    Bruntlett

i'm pretty sure Garner would play any of those guys before scott would have a chance....

Place in the batting order does not greatly influence BA or OBP. Not anywhere near the extent that RBI's are a team dependent statistic.

I would agree within that RBIs is much more influenced by other players, but OBP is significantly impacted by other players. Adam Everett has not earned an IBB, and yet he has been given free passes.

I have just never understood the bashing of BA in favor of another stat in which BA is the largest component. I don't see stats as absolutes and should be taken in context. For 5th and 6th hitters, I like a high BA because these guys tend to have a higher RBI percentage with runners in scoring position and two outs.

I'm just waiting for Hunter Pence personally. K's are a bit high for my taste, but he's hitting the ball for pretty good average (.292 as of last team page update) and power (16 HRs, 50 RBIs). Being in AA, the Astros will probably take 5 years to bring him up to the show.

    here here.

but in the meantime...i dont really understand why palmeiro is on the team. seemed like an unnecessary re-sign this offseason. i guess it's better for scott to be getting regular AB's in round rock than to be used how palmeiro is in the bigs, but i'm sure he would have had the chance to get more than the occasional spot start if he was up here.
