I agree. I think one of the errors made this year by the Rockets was to overestimate how fast Scola will fit in. As a result, Chuck is probably playing more minutes than is ideal (really should be more like 20 mpg, so he can burn fouls and energy aggressively without worrying about running out of them). Bonzi and Battier can fill in a bit at the 4, but again, they are converted SFs. The Rockets probably should have gotten themselves a Malik Allen while Scola works through his inconsistencies.
Be patient. He need more time to adjust. Everybody else is struggling for the new coach and system. And he has more new stuff to learn than others. And we designed a lot of plays for Bonzi usually, not him. He has no time to shine. But we all believe he will be a star, don't we?
His production is not very good but he is our ACE. I'm not too worry about him as he is a very very good player. He is just not familiar with the new players, game plans, refereeing and the coach. However, having said that, I believed Rockets should hire a specialist assistant to groom him for his position (pf) so that he can contribute quick. Similarly, Yao has tons of fould problems during his early years before Rockets hire Ewing and others to groom him up. This specialist help is essential. Any good past PF superstar who is available for coaching???
I know what the problem is If you look at scola when he gets the ball in the high post he is now passing like 98% of the time when he should drive to the hoop and take his man one on one sometime because that is what he was doing at first......He just simply stop looking for his own shot.
our offense sucks, we have absolutely no offensive gameplan, and scola gets MAYBE one post-up a game, yet you're wondering why a rookie trying to adjust to a new league isn't tearing it up yet? think about it for a minute. i'm not disappointed at all with scola because i still have no idea what he's capable of. from the limited amount of times i've seen a play run for him, he's been pretty effective. i'm much much more disappointed in what our offense as a whole looks like then him as an individual. and just because the spurs traded him doesn't make a lick of difference.
Adelmman sucks. He is not giving enough minutes to Scola and when he gives minutes to him, it does not create plays for him. Probably he is asking him to get there and play like Chuck. Another thing that is against Scola is that everybody is used to Chuck sucking that much that they are used not to pass the ball to the PF.
100% agree. This is Adelman's worst mistake. Scola has low stats.... because HE HAS NO MINUTES.... duh....
Scola is doing fine. All the b****ing and moaning about him are people looking at stats. He is a hustle guy and boy does he hustle. I love it when he dives on the court and fights for the ball. He gets alot of tough rebounds that I don't think other Rocket players would get (basically rebounding in a crowd). He does flop too much and this is part of his foul problems, he should just start using honest man up D. His sporadic offense is because of his sporadic minutes. Yeah he's blown of few layups but so have the rest of Rockets.
For those of you that have played orgainized basketball - There are three types of mindsets players have coming into a game: 1) I am a starter, I am a part of this teams identity, it is on my shoulders and I am going to have big minutes tonight in this game. I am not afraid of getting pulled if I don't make every shot because the coach already believes in me. 2) I am not a starter, but I have been here a while, I am comfortable with the other players, I am a big part of this team, I get major, important minutes every night, and the coach believes in me. I am always a big part of the rotation. 3) I need to try to crack this rotation, the coach does not believe in me, even though he might say it. If I miss this shot, I could get pulled. If I make a stupid pass, I will get pulled. If I don't stand in exactly the right spot, I will get pulled. I may not play more that five minutes tonight. I might play 25 if someone gets in foul trouble. I don't know yet. Scola is stuck in #3 right now. Adelman has to be a man and put him in #1 because he has the talent and physical tools to be there. Chuck Hayes does not.
Couldn't agree more. We did have a brutal schedule though and that probably wasn't a good time for Coach A to groom Scola harder. No Luis has played a bit and should definitely be in there logging major minutes.Scola's a team player and will mix well with our "frontline" players on a regular basis. We all know Chuck's a solid rotation player, but not starter material on an NBA championship team. There's most likely a deal down the line here that will have a major impact on the composition of this team anyway. We're a work in process with high valued assets and a great coach.
He showed he can be good role player sometime chipping with 15 to 25 points and 10 rebounds but he no doubt needs time to adapt, season is very young, give him and the team some time.
I don't know about start, but no consistent minutes is the key. Players don't always come into the game and turn it on right away. How many times have we seen Yao or T-Mac having a bad 1st half, but able to turn it on in the 2nd? For Scola (or any of our bench players) though, they don't have this luxury. They have to produce in very limited playing time. That doesn't always happen unfortunately. However when given a good chunk of playing time (those 30+ minute games), Scola was able to give us consecutive 20pt games. That should tell you something. I'm not saying play him 30 minutes a game regardless. But with T-Mac out, you almost have to. We can't afford to play an offensive challenged PF extended minutes without our leading scorer.
Other players in the team aren't involving him. He usually only gets to touch the ball on rebounds. I don't know why the hell they're treating him to nearly scrub status, honestly. The guy has been one of the most consistent mid-range shooters on the team when given enough touches and plays called for him. Sure, he makes rookie mistakes, but when the ALL the regulars aren't hitting shots and playing without heart, why not give the ball to someone who does? The Rockets should've been setting him up over Mike James or Bonzi, the way things have been goin'. The guy's an effin' winner - something I can't say for the rest of the team. I'm absolutely impressed at how patient he's been with the situation - with the team losing and all. From being one of the best in Europe to being forced to get rebounds just to touch the ball. The guy has a leader's mentality; but, at the same time, humble enough, or maybe just has the sufficient tact, to not complain about the situation. Really, If I were him, I'd have already smack Tracy for being such a boy.
He still learning how to play basketball too? How come all our playings are learning how to play basketball?
the way Scola blows the layups is not even funny - we have 2 chuck hayes. i think Scola will take more than 1 season to acclimate into NBA. His country fellow-man Oberto looked like a scrub for 1 and half seasons before he started playing.
i just want to see the boy get more minutes, consistently. he never seems to do all that much to hurt us while he's out there, and he so often plays about 12-15mins, sometimes even less!! give him a chance, and watch him flourish. with those few 20pt games, especially coming against good teams, it shows he can certainly be a force in this league.
