would you recommend the dvd or hi-def version? this fascinates me and i think i'll enjoy the series. i read on amazon the dvd version includes 110 minutes of behind the scene footage the hd counterpart doesn't?

    oops, sorry wrong forum. :p

I thought about purchasing the same thing as fry's has the series for about $70...But I think its the BBC version with a different narrator, but they could never tell me if this was the case...I guess I'm wondering if they are the same just with a different narrator?

I know Discovery HD and BBC did this jointly...

the bbc narrator (richard attenborough i believe) is worlds better than susan sarandon who did the discovery broadcasts. If you have a choice of getting the HD version then get it, its one of the best HD movies/series I have I can never get tired of watching it. There isnt any of the behind the scenes stuff just the episodes, but each episode is longer than what was aired on tv (i am sure this is the case for the DVD version as well)

I see sales all the time for the HD version between 60-70 dollars....well worth the purchase price.

I saw the one with david attenborough. It was great. Also the behind the camera scenes were great. It really is a nice buy.

Personally i liked life of mammals better, but i'm an animal freak. In Planet earth they show a Snowleopard and that is the most beautiful animal in the world.

    Enjoy it

Sigourney Weaver did the Discovery broadcasts. I have the BBC HD-DVD, I wish I had gotten the Discovery one. The content is exactly the same, but I think Weaver did a better job.

The non-HD Discovery version does have the behind the scenes footage. It is some good stuff seeing how dangerous some of the shoots were. I wish it were on the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray versions.

check Discovery .com, they are having a DVD sale at the moment.

    what r****ded question is that?
if you have an HDTV and don't' buy the HD version, then go see the optometrist and ask him to cut out your cataracts.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with this...David Attenborough is waaaay better than Sigourney Weaver

I couldn't stand her when watching the U.S. television broadcasts

I got the Blue Ray BBC version. The Brittish dude is good, but I had been used to hearing Weaver when I watched it on Discovery. She has a pretty smooth voice that really fit with a lot of the content and added some drama, but the Brittish dude is good too and makes it feel more "educational" I guess.

I couldn't imagine watching this in non-HD. There are actually better documentaries out there as far as content, but none better as far as beauty, so if you are going for the beauty, get it in HD.
