Possible interpretations (feel free to add your own):

basso hopes Byrd will die soon.

basso is excited that Bush is now taking advice from a KKK member.

Byrd had a spat with Reid and Bush is his new lover.

Bush is so rude and egotistical he has to walk in front of the old guy instead of beside him like most people would.

Everyone in DC wears the same suit.

Bush's hair will be as white as Byrd's when Waxman is done.

Byrd's begging Bush to realize what incredible damage his policies have done to the country.

OK, after tracing the cites to the photo, I think I get it.

The photo is at the celebration for the Tuskeegee Airmen.

The contrast basso wants to show is former KKK member Byrd being helped by the great and good Bush while presumably irony swirls around Byrd's appearance at the event or something.

It's also supposed to show Bush's compassion.

or just demonstrate that bush is a gentleman, and has the compassion to help an old feeble adversary walk.

At this point, I'd take Byrd's brain over Bush's.

Feeble old Byrd couldn't get thgis country in as much trouble as Bush even if he were trying.

Oh, and I'll pick this one as the correct caption...

Bush is so rude and egotistical he has to walk in front of the old guy instead of beside him like most people would.

I think it shows how much all of us have grown, when 2 Southern politicians and a Nevadan, who were all alive and voting/campaiging when discrimination and racism were still socially and politically expedient blah blah blah yada yada yada tolerance, diversity, Dr. King's dream.

Or that a recovering alcoholic failed businessman and a gaming industry w**** who are lucky enough to have the easiest six-figure salaried jobs on the planet are grateful enough of their good fortune to help an old man walk.

Or that watching a really old person fall down is unpleasant and frightening enough that anyone would help him stand.

Or that politicians always know where the camera is.

Or that the Exalted Cyclops is cramming for his "get into Heaven" test.

I can't possibly be the only who thinks Byrd looks like Emperor Palpatine.

I can't speak for others but I never questioned that GW Bush personally is a gentleman and is a nice guy. That's one of his best traits. That doesn't though mean he hasn't made a mess of the government.

Hey! Is that photograph of George Bush throwin' the bird (the one with the dog) real? If so, why was he doing that?

If racists should not be in government, a large percentage of Southern Republicans should quit now.

Because people can't change? IF that's true then a former cokehead, alcoholic shouldn't be president, right?

You seem to be selective in allowing folks to change.
