Im glad they did it that way, I like the more answers than questions direction they seem to be going in.
the more i watch this show the more hooked i get to it. last nights show had no scenes with the oceanic 6 and yet it made it one of the most fascinating episodes too. Spoiler widemore being one of the originals on the island it looks like the original "others" were able to move freely on and off the island because they knew its location and it appears it wasnt an issue until dharma came around. judging from widemore's personality...killing his ally and then being pretty disobedient to richard when locke came to camp he probably left the island and was not allowed to return or the island was moved when he was gone and he has been searching for it since. i am curious though on the time skip perspective what do the other people see when the group skips back and forth? like when locke is speaking to richard, what does richard see what that happens? does locke just simply vanish before his eyes?
Guys, please reserve use of the spoiler tags for actual spoilers, not just random tidbits about the show that aired. Also, I wouldn't be so sure that Widmore was an "original" Other. Juliette wasn't, Ben wasn't, Mikhail wasn't....there's a clear pattern of them incorporating outsiders into their ranks (at the instruction of Jacob). Richard could possibly be the only constant, true Other - he's the only one (if I am correct) that has demonstrated agelessness. I'm starting to strongly suspect that the Black Rock crew became an old school Others crew. I also suspect that Alvar Hanso (Hanso Foundation, Dharma) is a life-extended/time-hopping Magnus Hanso. Though it is odd that we've yet to actually encounter him on the show. Everyone that said Hawking was Faraday's mom is looking really good after last night. I have to wonder about the off-island timeline, though. If Desmond is going to LA, did he arrive in England well before Hawking's 70-hr timetable? I assume they'll have to fly to get to LA, but that's still going to be tight. Evan
You don't get how spoilers work, do you? Do you honestly think that Spoilers are only supposed to be used for events that haven't happened yet? Who do you think you are? Locke?
I think I was under the impression that all of the "others" were ageless. But the more I watch, the more I think that it's just Richard. Widmore obviously got older, but maybe that's because he left the island. The others did adopt the children from the crash plus a few survivors (like the Aussie stewardess). So it does seem that they incorporate non natives into the group. I'm wondering at what point giving birth on the island became a problem. One thing regarding Desmond's "memory". Why did it take 3 years to remember the encounter with Daniel? One theory would suggest that should have always had that memory and would have known to go find Faraday's mother as soon as he got off the island. Another would suggest that there would be a delay since Daniel hadn't "implanted" the memory yet. But if that's the case, the delay should only be as long as it took Daniel to go find Desmond and tell him. And what was that? A couple of hours? A day max? Why did it all of a sudden pop into Desmond's head 3 years later? I'm wondering how they're going to tie together the on and off island stories. The 70 hour window makes me believe that Jack and crew will be coming back within the next handful of episodes unless they really draw it out or have more episodes like they did last week where they don't appear. But aren't all of these awful things supposed to happen on the island. Doesn't Locke still have to get off the island, visit everybody (including Walt), and die? You'd think they'd show that before Jack and them go back. Should be interesting to see how they decide to tell the story. But I'm also thinking that while 3 years have passed off the island, the same isn't probably true on the island. They could easily jump 3 years into the future right at when the Oceanic 6 return. So who knows how much time will have passed for the island crew when the O6 returns.
i took it as "real" time still. like desmond remembered because in while they are in a different time they are still continuing on the same time line so while desmond was told it the past it was like him just remembering/knowing that info at the same time as faraday was telling him....its kind of hard to explain but i guess that is what makes the show so amazing.
It only seems like it's in "real time" because that is how they edited it. If he would have remembered as the same time fariday said it, he would have remembered a few days after he got off the island.
70-hr window: Well, technically, that does give them almost 3 seasons of 24 to get back, and they were able to give us last night's episode with no time off that clock used. Plus, they'll be able to cut back and forth from LA and the island each episode, don't have to share that time equally, and can further split the LA time up into the various storylines until we get to the usual 3-hr season finale storyline. It's doable, we'll just get their stories in slices. Speculation about Mrs. Hawking: The reair of "The Lie" last night said that her first name was "Eloise," which was the name Faraday gave to his lab rat. Also, the Other's blond chick went by the name "Ellie" - I think this really suggests that we didn't just get Widmore last night with the Others, but Mrs Hawking as well. Some people think those two pair up and have Penny (I dunno, but maybe). It'll be very neat to see what sent them off the island, and what their true agendas are today. I'm pretty sure that was just kidding, but still (not pointed at you): I realize I can be an old man about it, but it irks me to no end when people just drop a spoiler button in their posts with no explanation of what it is. Is it an actual spoiler they found out? A major one/minor one? Is it speculation about a major reveal? Or is it the usual "why the hell would you even think this is a spoiler" stuff, as if they just decided to make half their post a spoiler for the heck of it? I don't want to be in the habit of hitting the spoiler buttons just to see something like "that was so cool Widmore was with the Others", because down the line, I'll hit the spoiler button and get "Kate dies in the next episode!!! There was this huge leak on the Fuselage boards!" 2 ways to avoid this: Use spoiler tags for SPOILERS In front of the spoiler tags, give a vague idea about what's within the spoiler tags It's not that hard, and this is the only message board I've come across where people don't have the slightest clue as to how to properly use them. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2525171&postcount=1 ^^^ That's Clutch's definition from the thread where the tags were born. It seems to me that it is a spoiler that a certain character is revealed as an other on the Island. Spoiler Spoiler Nazi!
Call me a spoiler nazi if you want. It would have been a spoiler had someone revealed it yesterday afternoon, or if someone was dumb enough to DVR the show, and read up in this thread before watching it. 1. Movies are slightly different than TV shows - you don't expect every, even most people to see the movie the same day it comes out, where you do expect 90% of people to see a TV show at its airing, or at least have the common sense not to read that show's thread before watching it on DVR. It's a spoiler if it's a fact that hasn't yet been revealed in an aired episode. Talking about the aired episode the next morning doesn't require spoilers, even if it is a big reveal. And my bigger point is, use the spoiler tags with a preface. Who knows what the hell is behind the spoiler button. If it's just discussion about last night's reveal and you feel so compelled to tag it, do this: It's not that hard. As far as I, or anyone else knows, that spoiler in your post could have been a true spoiler about something down the line. I really don't want to be spoiled with stuff like that, and that's EXACTLY how problems have happened before, with the use of the tags. Spoiler tag all the obvious stuff you want, just tip people off that it's safe to hit your spoiler button. Making it so people have to hit your spoiler button to find out whether or not it's a spoiler defeats the purpose of the tags. Evan
Isn't there a theory about time not being linear but circular or something like that? I forget but that could explain the "memory".
I did. I put "Great Episode" and then put my comment after the tag. I was obviously talking about the episode. I used the spoiler tag because I was thinking of the 10% who might not have seen it - silly me. I should really make sure I have your spoiler rules memorized before commenting again - I don't want to do it wrong! So don't hit the tags if you don't want spoilers. That seems simple.
Yep. But it could also be that this going back and forth through time like an elevator ends up giving folks like Sawyer a permanent case of deja vu, like Desmond after the hatch implosion/explosion. Last season Sawyer was dropping a lot of "deja vu/broken record" comments, and in the first season people caught on to several time "goofs" - notably telling Kate he had waited "4 years" for a kiss from her. Sounds good, I'm not exactly going to miss any deep thoughts from posters like yourself anyway.
Did you guys just break up over the spoiler tag? Who cares? I think using them is perfect; I didn't watch last night, but still came in here to get if people thought it was good or not before I watched it. It was awesome.
Well, I'm it was a watchable ep last night, but still, IMHO, not very interesting...I use to look forward to watching Lost, but find myself changing the channel...
Still pretty addictive, and the answers to the twists are starting to be more common. I always worry when a show dances on the fine line of sense with time space continuum stuff, but so far it's held water enough to keep it entertaining.
Perhaps it is tied to the fact that children don't survive if they are conceived on the island, so that causes them to leave...(if Penny is the kid). Or perhaps CW impregnated another "other" and wanted the child to live, hence leaving the island and not being allowed back
