The "Story" was that they drifted into a small uninhabited island. Later, a typhoon washed the wreckage of an Indonesian fishing boat ashore. That boat contained supplies and a survival raft which they used to get to a populated island where they were rescued. They found the raft on day 103 and they were rescued on day 108. To me, the raft didn't look the same, but it could be. Also, they didn't look that clean to me in the photo. The "story" was that after the crash, they drifted for a day or so to an uninhabited island. After 105 days, a typhoon washed an Indonesian fishing boat ashore. The boat had basic supplies and a survival raft which they used to go to a populated island where they were rescued. The two rafts looked different to me. The one they showed in the rescued picture looked black while the one from the freighter was a light gray.
Interesting question: Why even make up a story? Who's hiding what? Also, wasn't that the commander of Battlestar Pegasus as the Oceanic marketing/PR person?
Well the theory of Jack never finding out about Aaron and Claire was squashed right away. As for Desmond, Jin, and Michael in the freighter with the C4. I really don't think they will die there. Simply because of the fact that the show has a lot invested in Desmond and Penny's story. They can't kill him off without them meeting. They just can't!
Glad to see Im not the only Frakkin' dork who noted that Thought I was the only Galactica guy here...
So far all of desmond's "visions" have sorta come true. Last season he had the vision of Charlie dying by drowning, then claire leaving on a helicopter. Do yall think Claire will really leave on a helicopter? or is this just a flaw in desmond's vision?
Nope your not the only either, I thought it was awesome to see her even for a short while, thought she should have been around longer on BSG but I digress...
Rousseau wasnt as big of a character as desmond, jin and mike were. she would pop up now and then and when she held sayid hostage there was some background info given about her. I doubt they would have had a flashback episode about her since it wasnt like she would have been in every episode or anything. it would suck if all 3 of those guys died because of the c4. maybe mike but all 3 that would upset me greatly. anyone else curious as to what the orchid is? ben knows whitmore knows about the orchid as a greenhouse but from the instructions ben gave to locke he said go to the real orchid hidden underground. i wonder if whitmore knows about that as well. it seems like ben believes that whitmore doesnt. who is the guy with the mirror communicating with ben? Ben has had people at stations for years cut off from the rest of the people on the island I dont know how they did it. Desmond with near stir crazy in the hatch, but i bet Ben would have had one of his own guys in there if desmond wasnt. the hatch was a nice living area as well. but the two ladies in the looking glass underwater were there for years. presumably the mirror man has been there for 15 years?(age of the crackers eaten by hurley) oh and sun buying a controlling interest in the company was totally badass. oh just a thought i am going to spoiler it since its what i think is going to happen Spoiler the six get off the island via the helicopter but i think what happens is that the freighter goes to island after the c4 is safely discharged, but then something goes bad where either locke or ben destroy the freighter once its at the island trapping everyone on the island. and since the island was "moved" its impossible to get back there with the same 305 bearing. its going to be a timing deal where the island is moved after the freighter makes it to shore. no one knows that the island has been moved except for locke, ben etc. imo it seems like the oceanic 6 was just supposed to be the first 6 off the island, but now they cant find it again because the island moved sun-pregnant had to leave first jack- cut and probably would need more medical attention right away hurley- loveable guy wanted off the island off the most and locke probably felt guilty for putting him through the jacob/orchid ordeal and they let him on kate/aaron -it seems like she has become the adopted mother now and so her and the kid have to go sayid--not sure why sayid i would think sayid would be one to go maybe he was going to help the pilot navigate his way to and from the island and wherever their touchdown point would be. he already flew from the island and rode the boat only thing i could think of. everyone else is still on the island but now are unable to get off the island and since the bearing has changed its impossible to find them again. so jin is probably still island but for all purposes to Sun he is dead since she cant get back to him. I think sawyer was planning to stay on the island regardless and asked kate to do some things for him once she got back. i am sure others (like locke) wanted to stay on the island so it didnt matter to them necessarily that the freighter was destroyed. leads back to last season's finale where jack is screaming to kate that they need to find the island again its probably his guilt of making the promise to get everyone who wanted off, off of the island that is driving him insane. the only thing that i can think of that would throw a wrench in my theory is how Ben gets off the island. but knowing Ben he probably knows of different ways on and off the island as do the original dharma folk like richard what do you guys think?
I thought it was neat how they set up, as early as the plane ride, that Jack was noticeably repressing and mentally walling off everyone they abandoned on the island. He seemed to lose a lot of respect amongst the others, and I wonder if Sun might have been referring to him as "one of the two" responsible for Jin. Anyway, finding out about Claire is the first in a series of cracks in his mental wall, culminating in last year's final. It's interesting to look at all the Oc6 in the forwards: Jack represses up until the wake for mystery guy X, and ends up taking random flights over the globe hoping to crash again and pleads with Kate that they have to return. Hurley realizes it was wrong to return quick, but mostly self-implodes. Sayid is happy, but loses Nadia and is completely caught up in revenge. No contact by the Island for him, yet. Sun seems to have an agenda already set. She's not trying to "get back to her life" - she seems to be aggressively making moves to either relocate the island, or exact revenge on those that separated her from Jin. Kate's the only one that both seems to be moving past the Island and isn't showing any need/urge/call to return. Kate starts off in pure denial, but in the end, he's pleading with HER. She knocks him during the trial for "believing his own lies"....but she's consumed with her own lie (Aaron). Ultimately, it stands to reason that Aaron is the Messiah that Richard keeps looking for and missing (Ben, Locke)...and Kate is going to have to return him to the island against her personal wishes. Why isn't the Island sending ghosts her way yet? Also - we know 6 left the island, and Aaron probably has to go back - but how many of the other 5 go? Hurley and Jack have been contacted, but not Sayid, Kate, or Sun. Sun may or may not be making moves to return - Jin's true fate is probably a major factor in that. We saw the major why at the beginning of the season - it was when Charlie appeared to him at the conveniences store and then police station. This party happened early, but does show that he was already at the cusp of a nervous breakdown. He seems the most keyed into the fact that he wasn't supposed to leave. Agreed that the story had many gaps and wasn't holding a ton of water - but they did a good job by showing the reporters calling BS repeatedly on points, like the Kate baby continuity goofs. Oceanic likely is aware that they need to steer the press away from certain questions, and did so. At the same time, Jack seemed to be prompting and promoting the lies with plenty of self interest. It was notable WHO lied at the press conference, and what about: Jack lied about the crash and survivors Kate lied about Aaron being her son Sun lied (hesitantly) about Jin's fate, but interestingly: Sayid lied about other survivors Hurley did not lie, and only said he didn't want the unlucky lottery cash I have to think the freighter's going up. Keamy gets iced by Team Others, and his transmitter sets off the explosives. I agree that it looks like the Island will be transported, Benry will get zapped out to Tunisia, and Team Others and Team Sawyer/Locke will team up starting next year. GOOD. QUESTION. Nikki and Paulo got one last year, even if that did go done as one of the worst LOST episodes of the series. People have been clammering for Rosseau's backstory since season 1, and the producers have been on record, as recently as a few weeks ago, saying they do want to show that story. Another Libby backstory is also something that a lot of people want. It'd be fine with Michael finally getting killed off, especially since he's been a poor character (IMO) almost since the start. At the same time, he's one of the best guesses for "who's in the coffin," along with Ben. Orchid is the time/space teleportation hatch. There's a Marvin Candle orientation film on it, which features an accident. Findable on LOSTpedia and other places. Ben and Widmore both know about it, and it seems like this is the only way to re-hide the Island from Widmore. simplest guess is he called in the gun toting others from the Temple to come whoop up on some Team Freighter. Evan
"The island won't let you die if it still has a need for you" Once you've fulfilled your purpose, the Island's fine with you dying. His time's coming. But that's why Keamy's gun jammed a week ago. Evan
Not sure if you guys addressed this, but any theories on why Jack did not have a visible scar from his operation when they were showing him walking around in a towel prior to showering with Kate a few episodes back?
IIRC, in the Orchid orientation vid, there ends up being the same rabbit existing twice at the same time. Benry said that moving the island was dangerous. Could we end up with 2 islands with 2 sets of losties existing at the same time?
The idea that The Island/Jacob gave them their conditions to either punish them or nudge them in a different direction is shared by a lot of people, including Benry himself. I agree with this, too. The hardcore crowd swear you can see a faint scar if you watch with appropriate resolution & screen size. Yep - the rabbit Dr Candle was holding popped into the room as a duplicate, setting off a serious panic. Seeing how panicked they were to keep the rabbits from getting close to one another, I'd say that tells us (a) yes, we could have double Losties (b) that would be worse than crossing the streams however - Daniel's science scribblepad book apparently said "time travel not likely" and "space travel possible" when he flipped to the chapter on the Orchid. I'm guessing that people, bunnies, and bears can travel off to a different time & location, but the island itself can only port to a different global location. Evan
One thing to point out that doesn't go with some of the theories - Sun is on the freighter but returns to the States. Another question is who was in the casket at the beginning of the season when Jack showed up late to the visitation. Is it one of the six, or someone else? I'm lost in the time frame with regards to that.
