Why does Hakeem want to end his career in Vancouver?I'm just wondering.........maybe he is trying to pull-off a Scottie Pippen. I wonder what would happen if he did leave Houston, would the fans of Houston boooooooooo him or cheer him on.....? ------------------
Hakeem actually has a house in Vancouver and stays up their a lot. Maybe he was saying that after he retires he wishes to move to Vancouver but not play for the Grizzlies. I think that is what he meant. ------------------ Arkansas' Biggest Rocket Fan!
Sam Smith took this quote from 8 years ago out of context. He was just trying to throw ideas out there, and suggest a way for Vancouver to get rid of its baggage. ------------------
The fan's of Houston would NEVER boo Dream. Even if he did say that why would that make you loose respect for him ? ------------------
Wasn't the quote just something he said to make sure he got a contract extension with Houston 5 or 6 years ago. It seems to me that ever since Sam Smith spewed out that rumor that a trade of Rice/Horry for Pippen had already ben agreed upon he has become a paper and glue rumor. He throws a rumor out in the paper every day and see if it sticks. ------------------
"I wonder what would happen if he did leave Houston, would the fans of Houston boooooooooo him or cheer him on.....?" If anyone booed Hakeem, I might have to hurt someone. ------------------ We're going to miss you Chuck! Thanks for all the memories!
I'm pretty sure I heard an interview w/Dream just a couple years ago in which he talked about Vancouver being the only place other than Houston that he would like to finish his career. I think he also spoke of living there when his NBA career was over. I'm not sure exactly when, but I don’t think it was 8 years ago! There wasn’t an NBA franchise in Vancouver until the 1995-96 season… ------------------
Just to set the recoird straight, Hakeem said that very thing. I have it in my files here somewhere. Hakeem has some very close ties to Vancover. He has friends. He has some business ventures there, also. Owns a home (a condo) and spends some time there every summer. He did indeed say he is looking forward to spending more time there when he retires. Interestingly enough, there was very progressive talk about him being traded there at one time. It was quickly squelched. However, around the time that he was involved in the Toronto deal, Vancover had been waving some desirable players (including Francis), along with some undesirable (including Tubby (although he looked good at the end of this season) Big Country) baggaged too. Personally, if Hakeem wants to retire this year I think that would be best for him. Honestly. I sure do not want him to have the same season he just went through. That would not help anyone's memory of him at all. And, his retiring certainly would not help the Rockets either as they would still have to eat his cap space for the season, and yet still find a 5 position for his spot. ------------------ "Let me get this straight .... we pay him $4.5 million dollars a year to play 82 games right? And, the other guy we pay $6 or $7 Million a year to stop the other team from scoring and maybe to score once in a while too!" ......... Popeye's darling sweetpea attempting to figure out WizBang and CaveInTo's role on the Rockets.
popeye, Based on what you know about Dream's physical condition, can the Rockets count on him to be a regular player next season (25 mpg?)? If the answer is not to sure, the Rockets will be looking for somebody to catch some minutes at the 5. Mango ------------------ The Serious Police are watching Donate Blood
