Just read that he want out of Memphis. I'm intrigued of im being our PF next to Yao. I think he's a good passer and can score. A veteran which is a Van Gundy qualification. Is he a good fit? could he be attainable?

He's owed $7.1M next year, and wants a long term contract...Any idea what type of contract he's looking for?

he's more of a natural C and i just don't think he can effectively guard other PF's out on the perimeter. he's a good role player at the C but i just don't think his contract and abilities fit at the PF position.

Wright is actually a pretty good player, he is a solid scorer and decent rebounder. I think he is in his last season so I wouldn't mind picking him up just for a year.

He would be a solid backup at both the C and PF positions. If the Rockets could get him fairly cheaply, I'd be all for it.

I doubt Memphis would give us anyone.

With this CBA luxury tax exception, Wright might be the one waived in Memphis. But I see him more as a backup 5 than a pf. And I'd rather keep Deke at the backup 5.

Yes, he could be waived. I don't think he has any trade value. And he is a backup 5. He can't play 4.

Why wouldn't he be able to play some backup minutes at the 4?

He's as agile other C-F around the league like Kurt Thomas, Duncan, Cato, Brad Miller, Battie, etc. And his offensive game is almost identical to Juwan Howard. I actually think he's more of a natural power forward than a center.

They sure would -- if we'd take J-Will too.

If he can play PF, then I am for it, especially if we lose Deke.

I completely agree with you New Jack. I see Wright as more of a pf as well. But with his size, he's been pigeon-holed into playing center. I think he would be fine as a starter, and an excellent backup. A Cato with more offense and better lateral quickness. I've kinda wanted him on the rox for a while, but haven't been able to really think of anything that would entice West to give him up for a pittance.

Are we not looking for upgrades at the PF position? Why are we proposing players that are not as good as Juwan? Wright makes as much money as Juwan yet he is a notch below. Juwan has had several 18pts 8reb seasons. Wright doesn't come close. Defensively they are about the same, but Juwan is far more refined offensively.

First of all with JVG in charge, IMO you'll never have an offensive PF. It is not his system. Jho numbers were cut in half offensively. So I am more concerned with Wright's defensive/rebounding/put-back capabilities.

Secondly , we are only a minor incident away from serious problem at the 5. If either Yao or Deke is hurt for even a couple of weeks we have no one to provide backup to the 5 posistion. We have gambled and more-or-less won for 3 years except for a two week period where Cato was hurt and we tanked badly. The law of averages is about to bite us in the ass one of these days. IMO we have to have a young 4/5 that can cover for us in the event that something happens to the dynamic duo.

For these reasons, any 4/5 that will come in a give us little or no drop-off in capability would be welcome to any championship chase. Badiane may more of a drop-off, but he will come alot cheaper than 6-7 million.

Exactly. when Juwan was fit, this team was hittiong on all cylinders. people said he was a " Soft Rebounder" yet he proved thats ballony. people said he could'nt play Solid " D ", yet again he proved them wrong. if we get someone ike SWIFT THEN FINE. if not then lets just Draft someone like Taft or Digou and let them mature. yo're not losing in anything by having JH as you're Starting PF.

our most glaring Weakness is the PG position. Whilst Someone like Chris paul is a Pipe dream, i'm sure someone like raton felton could fall late so we can get lucky and take him.

Wright would be an upgrade at the power forward position.

    Howard/Wright > Howard/Weatherspoon/Padgett

If Howard can come in next season an average around 12ppg/6rpg, and Wright can produce about 9ppg, 8rpg (while backing up both the 4 and 5 spots), our power forward position would be in pretty good shape for next season.

He's not my ideal fit, but considering he's basically Kelvin Cato minus a little shotblocking and plus some athleticism and offense, it certainly wouldn't be a bad pickup.
