About four weeks ago, I was playing basketball when something that I have feared happened. When I went up for a jumpshot, somebody jumped up and whacked me in my mouth. My mouth bled profusely. At first, I washed it out and sat out for many hours. Then, later that day I went back on the court. I went to a dentist a week afterwards and he revealed that my two front teeth were loose and that they will stregthen back and not to worry. However, he also said that some discoloration may occur. This has left me preoccupied because I have nice teeth and don't want that to change. Right now, I don't feel too much pain, but I can not chew with my front teeth. I was wondering if anyone here ever had this problem and how did they cope with it.
mmm, well this isn't exactly spot on advice. but around 7 or 8 , I knocked out part of my front tooth in a fall. had to get an artificial bit made and it's not too bad in terms of color. you can't really tell unless you look hard in a mirror. but with the artificial bit, I now have superpowers, so it's not so bad.
When I was 22, I had a drinking incident which I'll leave out the details but the point is, I love my teeth and I knocked them silly and was really worried about them too. My dentist told me the same thing, I didn't do any root damage but I could have discoloration and problems later on. It's been 4 years and not a problem. Just be careful...wear a mouth guard or something. Hope you have good results too!
Don't you mean BITE? I hope you're NOT chewing with your front teeth. The molars are for chewing. The canines are for cutting. The incisors are for biting.
Hope it you don't get discoloration. I got hit in the face while playing basketball too and my one front tooth has some discoloration and the dentist says there might be nerve damage in the tooth or whatever and thats a pain in the butt to deal with.
True story: We were at Mr. Meowgi's apartment (years ago) partying down and decided to go play some basketball on this sweet mini-court in the center of the complex. It was a full court with about 9 foot rims on each side that were a blast to dunk on. Anyways we're playing a sloppy game and someone clanked a shot so I race to grab the board and snatch the ball just as Meowgi's roommate is bending forward to grab the ball. The bone in my elbow makes solid contact with one of his top front teeth knocking it completely out just below the root. Long story short he gets the tooth fixed (poorly). Fast-forward a few years... He's preparing to take the ACT and has been working for weeks (or months) to prepare for the test ~ unfortunately he shows up to take the test at 9 and it started at 8:00 so they ask him to leave. He's of course extremely upset feeling like an idiot ~ so myself and another friend decide to cheer him up. We take him down to Barton Creek with some beers and head down to Sculpture Falls to swim and check out the ladies. So we're sitting there and he's telling us about this bone head screw up and he's got this whole "what else could go wrong" vibe. At about the same moment the false tooth he had put in to replace the one I knocked out falls out of his mouth and into his lap. My buddy and I just erupt in a screaming fit of laughter - the timing was bizarrely perfect not to mention the 50 point IQ loss that comes with a missing front tooth. His reaction was priceless because he just had no idea how to react ~ finally though he just gave in and started laughing with us.
