Elite 11 QB (decommitted from Florida). He should enroll early to learn the system. http://texas.rivals.com/
You bastards (UF student here). I'm hoping this means that Tim Tebow is going to sign with us (#1 dual threat QB, plays HS ball in Jacksonville, both parents went to UF and his bro goes here too). God help us if we don't get him.
You supposedly has Schaeffer (transfer) in the bag. By the way, thanks to UF for recruiting Jevan so well. Jevan was having a difficult time deciding between Texas A$M and Florida. Once he committed to Florida, he eliminated the aggies. As Florida began courting Schaeffer, the rumor was the Snead family weren't too pleased and began to look around. And since A$M regressed to their pre-jackie sherrill cheating days, his obvious choice was....... US.
For the long awaited bigtexxx review of this development: I find this bit of news to be funny. Horn fans were furious when Ryan Perrilloux pulled this very same stunt and decommitted from UT last year, but now they are jubilant that Snead has done the same thing. RP was a traitor, a classless player that UT didn't want anyway (despite being a 5 star rivals player - Snead only has 4...), and a "character risk", among other insults. Oh well, it's good that you guys got the 3rd best QB you were targeting (behind Stafford and Mustain...). He'll be good.
Perriloux told people he was committed to Texas all the way to signing day. He denied switching to LSU even though it was pretty obvious. Also, he was quoted after he signed with LSU about how he was the best QB on the team - before he even played a down, completely disrespecting Jamarcus Russell. Now he sits on the bench - for at least 2 years. Urban Meyer was supposedly misleading the Snead family by covertly courting Scaheffer who had a "conditional" offer. And since Snead was an early signee, he wouldve been stuck had Schaeffer transferred. The 1 missing piece to this year's great class - a Top QB prospect.
Not even close to the same thing. Perrilloux pulled his stunt on signing day and claimed up until that point he was a solid commit to Texas. Yes, I know Snead did the same thing last month when he clearly wasn't a solid commit to Florida, and by no means do I support it. But he made his decommit months before signing day, giving Florida a better chance to land one of the other high-profile quarterbacks because they now know they won't have Snead to compete with. Most of us expected for some time that Perrilloux would switch to LSU. I wasn't furious because of that. I was furious that he waited so long to announce it - not only did he not come to UT, but he also kept UT from having much of a push for other quarterbacks because none wanted to compete with Perrilloux. Snead's giving Florida three months before signing day to regroup... very different scenario.
What Perrilloux did to us was so far different than what Snead to Florida, it's not even funny. Perrillous kept his commitment to us all the way to signing day. We're still in November and not February. Also, Perrilloux kept on saying that he was a longhorn all the way up to signing day. Snead on the other hand, openly went to 3 of our games and even told Florida that he was going. He's a texas boy and he made his decision now instead of signing day. There is no way that Jevan Snead and Ryan "I went to LSU to start but now i'm riding the bench behind Jamarcus Russell" Perrilloux are in any way a like. On the signing... This is huge for us. For the last couple of years (after the VY signing), bringing in top QB prospects has been a problem for Mack. He would bring in top tier talents from all the other positions but QB has always been a weak spot in his resume. This is definitely due to criticism that Greg Davis can't develop QB worth a darn and rightfully so but this year has been a night/day change. Not only is our offense is explosvie, it has made it very clear to prospects that Davis can develop a QB so that's why we got Snead. He should be able to come in and learn the system, and if VY comes back for his senior year, Snead could redshirt his freshman year so when VY graduates, Snead could have 4 whole years to take the horns to the national championship again and again and again! It is definitely a good time to be a longhorn sports fan! #2 ranked Football Team bringing in Top Recruits year after year #2 ranked Men's Basketball Team Top 15 Ranked Women's Basketball Team College World Series Champion Baseball Team hook em'
In terms of Snead's timing...Snead's hand was forced early due to the fact that he would enroll early in school. He couldn't have waited until signing day to pull this stunt because then he couldn't enroll early. Regardless, he'll be good. He's a 4 star prospect.
^ Essentially, you're right. But it still doesn't compare to what RP did, not even close. As most of the other posters said, RP wanted to make the headline news of signing day. He deliberately waited til' signing day to let the Horns that he wasn't coming, saying "there will be a suprise on signing day." He knew his decision and waited to tell everyone on purpose, it wasn't that he wasn't sure, he just wanted to make a big deal of it. Since the Horns had a supposed very solid verbal committment from him, we didn't pursue many QBs after that. At least UF has quite a bit of time to find a replacement, as Franchise said, they might have a shot at Tebow (which would be HUGE for the Gators) and Schaeffer.
bigtexx: As an obvious genius given you're alma mater, don't you realize that trolling on a particular topic is more effective if you at least make efforts to disguse your absurd degree of bias?
This matter was so striking in the double standard that existed from the longhorn camp that I felt compelled to take action and make that known.
What double standard? You pointed out a situation with RP that is very different from Snead's. RP deliberately waited to the last minute to announce his decision. I know I've pointed this out already. Here is a statement by Snead and try to tell me it's the same. RP never thanked or apologized to Texas for what he pulled, nor were we looking for one. That's why we thought it was a classless move.
bwaaahahahahaa! You believe this? You don't think that superstar JUCO who has allegedly "silently committed" to UF had anything to do with it??? I think it might have....
Gents, you are all missing the point. Only The_Conquistador is able to step in and provide the critical thinking needed to properly analyze this situation.
