I'll be in New Orleans doing a gig Friday & Saturday, but this isn't a bad weekend for live music in Houston. Here's my mini list. Feel free to add... Friday, April 1 Arthur Yoria - Rhythm Room (Washington Ave.) My band orange is in will be playing with Yoria at Rudyard's in a few weeks. He is a very talented singer/songwriter who has won quite a few contests with his stuff. This is a FREE show. Can't beat that. Los Skarnales - Fitzgerald's (White Oak in the Heights) Pale - Rudyard's (Waugh Drive) Podunk - Sidecar Pub (Huffmeister Road) Southern Backtones - Helios - 411 Westheimer Saturday, April 2 The Buddhacrush & Vibe Committee - Rudyard's The Hollisters - Continental Club - Main Street House of Moist - Fitzgeralds Downstairs Band that kind of reminds me of Kings X and Galactic Cowboys. Tracy Conover - Dan Electro's - 24th Street in the Heights Great blues rock in the Heights. I know one particular BBS'er who will definitely be there. Sunday, April 2 Dig - Rhythm Room
Tonight @ Rhythm Room is A>S>H>S who's pretty good with a couple of other bands (Flash Funk Order & Element Brown). It'd be a good one to catch if you don't already have anything going on. Southern Backtones are playing Helios??? You'd think they could find a more suitable venue.
Hollisters reunion show at the Continental on Saturday will be the place to be....but DOH don't know if I will be able to make it. Tracy Conover.....mmmmmm....I loves me some Tracy Conover!
My plans: Tonight: The Gris Gris at Rudyard's. If they're done in time, Neil Hamburger at Mary Jane's. Friday: The Decemberists at Mary Jane's. Saturday: The Decemberists at Emo's Outside in Austin. Seeing the Decemberists three times in one year is good.
There's a really hot band playing at the Lake Houston Country Club Saturday night. BTW, if a band called Strangelight is on any of the aforementioned bills in Jeff's first post, RUN. Run and don't look back.
So what venues are there in H-Town to hear live metal and where can I find schedules/websites? I've done searches before but I've rarely come up with anything useful, even through Google. I enjoy hitting The Big Easy for blues and Fitzgerald's seems kind of hit-or-miss from what I've been able to gather....or am missing something.... A trip to Deep Elum a month or so ago spoiled me. And I don't want no Godsmack-ish crap, either. Thanks.
I think Forgetabout It #1 off Jones Road is heavy metal. You might also wanna look up Mary Janes (or whatever they call it now) and Walters on Washington, 'cause sometimes they have heavy metal.
Crap - both are playing Saturday? Well, I gotta go with the Hollisters. Haven't heard Eddie Dale (Eric Danheim) play live in ages.
