Interesting thing happened to me Tuesday afternoon. The rain was starting to move in and I was making preparations for the storm like putting the car in the garage covering the grill, securing the lawn chairs etc. My 3 year old was following close behind (as usual) when I went to the sliding glass door, opened it and took one step out the door and out of the top of my eyes I saw what looked to be a large silvery/white upside down mushroom shaped light then WHAAAMM! ! ! ...it hit me. I never even heard the thunder as I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time. Then crawled into the house looking for my son, and found him but was having trouble thinking, as a matter of fact, I could not remember anything so I just hit redial on the phone and got my wife. She said to call 911 when the medics arrived they were only able to find a light pulse so they did an EKG to find I had arrhythmia, 103 degree temp and a BP 140 / 110. I was hospitalized for two days while being treated for the recurring arrhythmia (meaning I was being shocked). Once the heart was under control I had to be observed before being released. I was extremely lucky. The lightning hit the tree that I was standing next to and traveled through my foot up my left leg and out my right forearm. Had I been 3-4 feet further out the door there is no doubt I would be dead. Hug your kids and family, you never know when it could be your time.
Dayum! I've had a couple of close calls in auto accidents, kinda makes you reevaluate your priorities, huh? Glad to hear you're ok.
Was that you on the news last night? That's amazing. The older I get to more wary I've become of storms. Good to hear you are ok.
man, that sucks. what sucks even more is that crap like that can happen to you, but you can't even get one f'ing number right in the lottery. damn those powerball winners. sigh. glad you're okay.
Yes it was. Apparently the medics or some one had contacted them and they left me a message. I have always been wary of lightning and when it finally happens you feel so vulnerable. Funny you say that. The crew asked me if I was going to play the lotto. I said, "no. Getting hit by lightning was 1 in 15,000,000 chance and the lotto is 1 in 28,000,000. To say I am 1 in 15,000,000 is acceptable, to say I am 1 in 43,000,000 is a bit conceited."
That's good that you went on tv...I think it helps more people understand how dangerous lightening is.
The actual chances of being hit by lightning and winning the lotto is much less that 1 in 43,000,000. The formula is 1 in (15,000,000 times 28,000,000) which equates to 1 in 420,000,000,000,000.
You know at first I wanted nothing to do with it, but in the end I thought it may be good for that reason. I have done a lot of electrical work and I respect the power of electricity, and am for the most part very cautious, but still it can just happen in an instant. See there I get struck by lightning and you are expecting me to put all that thought into it. Damn you, that is just like my wife! I get home and she had 2 of the best looking cuts of NY strip steak and I was thinking "great, you are making me dinner!" She responded, "no, you need to grill these."
That's amazing. Glad you're OK. Near death experiences really DO change the way you look at life. Almost like a blessing in disguise. I experienced the same feelings when I had a gun stuck against my temple by a bank robber a few years ago.
Really glad to read that you're okay. It's kind of amazing that you recall seeing this upside-down mushroom shape. Really glad your son didn't get hit also. Hope you give yourself time to return to equilibrium. It'll be interesting for you and your loved ones to see what might be subtly different about you now -- seriously, you really had all your neurons rattled! Maybe your political posts will make more sense now. (J/K!) Best wishes.
Thanks Mrs. JB. The shape/ball was all I saw and it was about 30 feet up then it hit. As far as my son goes the medics were afraid he had been hit b/c he would not speak. Knowing how bad it hurt and messed me up, if it were to happen again, I would run toward the tree take the hit and die rather than EVER risk my son having to go through this. Every time I think I am ok I am put back in line. I tried to drive this morning and it was a bad idea that made me turn around at the end of the block. No hope there, they usually don't even make sense to me Hell, if I could some how save in the eletric bill with I sure as all hell would!!
Does this mean we're going to win the National Championship this year? P.S. That's incredible, and glad to hear you are Okay, that's a story you will be telling the grandkids for many a moons.
Wow, ima. That is incredible. Can I ask you to elaborate on that story or is it too hard to talk about?
