Y'all should read the sports illustrated issue on Redick. Insightful and interesting writing. The kid has more to him than you see. Bottom line, he is a winner.
Bob Hurley was a winner too.... So was Christian laetnerr..... They even gave Laetner a spot on Dream team right before he started to play in the NBA.... ....soon after yet another Dukie conned the NBA... ..which NBA team will Reddick rob?
It's going to be interesting to see how Redick turns out. He's a cold-blooded assassin in the NCAA who could be anything from Steve Alford to Steve Kerr to Mark Price to Danny Ainge as a guard in the NBA. Who knows? I do think he's earned a shot at the NBA as a first-round draft pick.
He wasn't a winner at the Austin Regionals last year. Duke got throttled big-time by Michigan State and Maurice Ager. There's the guy we should targeting.
Reddick is a utility player who can play 10 minutes as a backup. His main role is to shoot the 3 ball when he is open. If he can learn how to play a PG, then he is more useful.
I'm also afraid of Duke players, they are never as good as advertised (see laettner, Jay Williams, Mike dunleavy Jr., Christian Laettner, etc.), but I still really like Redick. He can stroke the ball with the best of them, and has a lot of heart. Bottom line: He's going to be a solid contributor in this league as anything from a super sub to a star. There aren't many pure shooters left, and guys with passion are the ones that improve their game by highlighting their skills and hiding their weaknesses. I wouldn't mind picking up Redick in the draft. Whoa... as I was writing this I saw a comparison between Redick and Morrison... they are eerily similar. As of now the players I most want in the draft are redick, aldridge and morrison. Anyone know if morrison has heart too?
Offensively he plays a similar game to Rip Hamilton. Defensively, I'm not sure how he would fit under Van Gundy. For some reason I see him fitting perfectly under Sloan.
There have been good players to come out of Duke no doubt. But there have also been a lot of disappointments coming out of there (Laettner, Dunleavy, Hurley, J. Williams, Langdon). Reddick is a good player and I won't be suprised if he turns out to be decent player in the league. But there is fair reason to suspect that he might only be "college good" rather than being "NBA good." Same goes for Morrison in my opinion.
Redick would be much more Steve Kerr than Mark Price. The guy has next to no fundamental PG skills. Best way to put it would be to say that he's another Wally Sczerbiak only in 6-4 body. Equivalent quickness, handling, and passing. JJ is a better shooter, he's lights out, but a second option? No way. You have to be able to get your own shot for that. I agree that he'll be a bench guy, but will be key for the right roster (like SA or Mia). Adam Morrison isn't a sure thing either. He's versatile and maybe the greatest garbage-collector player of all time, but he doesn't have near the athleticism needed for the next level. I see him becoming a Shane Battier type guy. Evan
I like the Rip Hamilton comparison. The guy can stroke it. (I didn't realize how bad that sounds until I typed it out ) With the way the Rockets are right now, they need a dead eye shooter and I see no one better thatn Redick. I think he'd get plenty of open looks with Yao and T-Mac.
I think his shot will hold up in the NBA and he will be a specialist similar to Kyle Korver, terrific outside shooter and not much more. Wouldn't waste #1-5 pick on him but for a 10 below pick for a team that needs an outside shooter like Houston, I would do it.
