This is great! I wish there had been several inches here in Austin, instead of what we got, but my kids are going nuts out there. ( they started at five in the morning... you'd think it was Christmas or something!) It's been so many years since we had even this much that they can't remember seeing it. It used to snow in Austin pretty regularly during tthe Little Ice Age of the early '80's. We moved here in '80 from Houston and thought, "Wow! We found Winter!". It didn't last. :( Global Warming set in and, after the climate change, we were doomed to this meager shadow of the former wonderfulness. ;)

What a morning suprise! I just had to dig my car out of about 2-3 inches. That is the last thing I would have expected to have to do after going to bed last night.

Robbie, that's the famous "snow warming effect", discovered by a Sherpa in Nepal in 1698. Scientists believe he would have been worthy of a Nobel Prize, but Nobel hadn't been born yet. He was friends with a Tibetan who blew himself up late in life while experimenting with explosives... thought in some scientific circles as the original discovery of dynamite. Luckily for Nobel, all the proof went up with the explosion. The Tibetan was blown through the roof of his hut. After it happened his wife muttered, "He's in the roof of the world now, the poor soul", looking up into the smoke and shaking her head. That was the origin of that well known expression.

Despite what the Russians, the French, and the Chinese would have you believe, many of the world's great scientific discoveries occured in the region, which is thought to be caused by the stimulating climate.

I hate snow and ice. I'm in Dallas and the stuff is falling but it's really only accumulating on cars. The ground is just wet. Should start melting in a couple of hours.

The reaction to snow at work yesterday was pretty hilarious. We had a few guys saying things "Good. Maybe I won't have to do a damn thing for Valentines Day". Others were saying "Yeah, but you know there's gonna be a makeup day". :)

I hope these people didn't go out and drive or at least waited til they had sobered up or what rocketfan83 said earlier is coming to fruition.

We get a little bit of snow every year in middle Tennessee and I would say that about once every 3 years, we will get some that sticks (around 2 inches or more). For the most part, when we get any wintry type precipitation, it is ice.

That is why I despise the stuff because we rarely get a true snow - it is always sleet, ice, or a combination of these with snow. Add in the fact, that you have people who have NO clue of how to drive in it and I have the same attitude as mrpaige - I've seen enough of it to last my lifetime and really don't ever want to see it again. Maybe it is the remembrance of being without power during the week of Christmas back in 1999 or being snowed in back in February of '96 or living through the blizzard of '93 (huge snow that happened in March), but whatever it is, I don't want the stuff. One day, I will be living in south central Florida and will never have to deal with this crap again!

We have a beautiful snow here in Dallas.

It may be best kind - postcard pretty on the trees and not too much of a problem on the roads. TBS, it's still snowing and I haven't tested the roads yet.

    At least it's a Saturday.

    Go Rox - go snow.

I don't live in Houston for weather like this. Where is my beloved stifling heat and oppressive humidity???

It's waiting patiently to make you sticky and sweaty from late May through early November.

I like this kind of stuff on occasion. Once or twice a year is fine with me. It already melting away here in Austin.

Isn't this the worst kind? The stuff falls, the ground melts it, and then it freezes because it's under 32 degrees. Now you have ice. Arrrgg. I wanted to go out and look for houses.

... amazing how a little snow brings Texas down. ;)

Last night was a lot of fun. After driving through sleet Friday morning, I didn't think that there would be much, if any, snowfall in the evening. The snow was falling hard between 1AM-3AM, to my surprise.

Haven't had this much fun with snow since the ice storm about this time last year. But it's all melted now, unfortunately.

    Pretty cool.

I lived in Lubbock for 5 years and Denver for 3, so snow is no big deal to me. It was pretty cool to see it last night though......

Damn Im gonna miss Austin..... :(

I'm with you and mr.paige. I had 6 months of snow a year in Canada for 20 years, and that was enough. Bring on the heat - I gotta play golf this week.

I remember the snow in '85 vividly. It was awesome.

I've lived in upstate New York and at 8000 feet in Colorado, but unlike Drewdog, I still find snowfalls to be something special. May sound like a stretch to some, but when I see that stunning, pristine landscape, I cannot help but think it's just another gift from God.
