it seems, that Head is the only one who can make the shots of the Rox backcourt!..man,:::JVG,let him play!!
Head is reminding me of Cat with court vision. If he continues playing well, I may have found my new favorite rocket.
He is the only guard that looks like he knows what he is doing, and, by far, he is only guard on the team that can shoot. I would give this kid major minutes. Why not, all the other guards are playing horribly. He is not bad on defense either even though he got beat a couple of times. Boy, I wish Swift could really get going.
I couldn't care less right now about Luther starting. Just as long as JVG gives him good minutes and let's him help us win games. The DNP against Minny made no sense at all to me.
the offence of the Spurs is really hurting our backcourt.damn,Ginobili and Parker are playing with our guards like kids.COme on.Rox,do something in the 2 half!!!
van gundy is really starting to disappoint me. he may be a great defensive coach but he won't let them have an offense. create plays for swift. let head lead the team.
The spurs game proves it more. Head plays awsome D out there and can hit the shot. We are the third worst team in the nba inside the paint. Head attacks the basket. Everyone else are pure shooters.
I came into the forum with the purpose of starting a thread saying the same exact thing. Rafer Alston, for whatever reason is just not performing. Luther Head is. Even though he's a rookie, Van Gundy's gotta suck it up and start playing people based on talent. The kid looks to be the real deal. From what little (very little) I've seen, it seems to have been a very smart pick. I say give him the minutes, sit back and watch him finish in the top 5 in the rookie of the year voting.
At this point in the season, our defense isn't looking stellar by a long shot. Maybe this is a repeat of last year, but we need to start playing some ball. I think our funk right now has a lot to do with Van Gundy lacking some sort of rotation. He's gotta find his talent and start to manipulate it. In a hurry.
I don't know about starting, but he definitely needs more minutes. From the box score: T-Mac: 27 pts, 12 rb, 4 asst, 3 TO in 39 minutes Yao: 19 pts, 7 rb, 1 asst, 1 TO in 42 (!) minutes Wesley: 6 pts, 6 rb, 2 asst, 3 TO in 25 minutes Anderson: 2 pts, 3 rb, 1 asst, 1 TO in 23 minutes Alston: 2 pts 3 rb, 3 asst, 3 TO in 29 minutes Luther: 11 pts, 1 rb, 0 asst, 1 TO in 19 minutes Feel free to examine the rest of the stats... but I think it's fairly telling that Luther was our third highest scorer even with having played only 19 minutes. For that matter, he scored more than two starters and a bench player put together in about 2/3 the minutes. Rebounds and assists are all well and good, but games are won with points. 'Nuff said.
I agree that Head should start, but I don't think he's quite comfortable running the team. He looks a little shaky as far as initiating the offense quickly. So, I think we should start him at the two with Rafer running the offense. Here's my lineup: Alston Head Tmac Swift Yao Howard is starting to piss me off more and more. First of all, he's a rebound thief. He literally steal rebounds from his own teammates, and it has resulted in him knocking several easy rebounds out of bounds. I know that it's good to have a guy going hard after the boards, but Howard looks like he's trying to pad his stats out there. Our guys need to realize that they should to defer to the big man (Yao), and not the other way around. Also, Howard hesitates on every pass to the post. His shot is decent, but I don't think it is that much better than Stro's.
Let Head start instead of Wesley or DA. I don't know what DA is in the game for right not. He clearly hasn't figured that out himself. And let's play Swift more, and Howard less. I'd give Howard 6 minutes in the 1st and if he is not shooting his top of the key J with high %, then play Swift 30 min at least that game. Our PF's are like headless flies out there giving up rebounds and contributing nothing on offense. What is the point of playing Tmac if he is not healthy? Damn, we have a long season ahead! And CD, do something about the backcourt! When is Sura coming back. He'd better not to retire yet.
The thing I noticed most about LH is that he has no problem getting the ball to Yao in the post. I don't know why that is. It seems so easy for him while it seems like the other guys find as difficult as doing a tomahawk between the legs reverse jam.
I was discussing that same scenario with my brother. It's very unlikely that Van Gundy would give a rookie time like that over a seasoned veteran, but I think it would work out nicely. Head seems to have a teriffic stroke (...no perv jokes here...), and I think that if he saw starter's minutes, he could averag 15 points per game. Not even joking...
Head has earned minutes. He needs to play get experience. TMac must put this team on his shoulders. TMac has to take charge at the start of games (like Dream used to have to carry the team) The only knock I have on JVG is trying to get something from Wesley (Gundy is being too patient) And not pushing TMac to take charge from the opening tip off. It is nice to get Yao going early but the early focus on the inside has resulted in TMac going like 0 for a zillion in the 1st qtrs. Start the game with TMac work the ball inside as the defense adjusts and start Head. The biggest problem though with the team right now is rebounding. This team is designed to run but there is not a rebounder who can get the transition game going. When we were really good last season we ran off of Sura's rebounding. It was not all Sura, but we really miss his 5-7 rebounds and his hard hustle and toughness. Yao is not a great rebounder and neither is Howard or Swift. Deke sparked alot of breaks last year with some good rebounding. We have zero fast break going right now and last year we were at our best when we were running.
