I gave up red meat (chicken, pork, beef, turkey) and soda. I did the one meal 2 years ago, really tough, good luck to you FT. Last year, i did atkins and lost 15 pds. This year, im doing the opposite. Heh, I just ate a garden burger from Fuddruckers for dinner today, not bad alternative at all.
Given up fast food and soft drinks. Which is hard since i stay up late and Mountain Dew gets me through the night. And of course no meat on Friday.
I gave up dessert and sort of decided to give up p*rn...but I don't see the latter working out too well. Sorry, Jesus.
i stopped watching the NHL for a whole season, depending on how spiritual i feel, i might even pass up the playoffs.
I gave up on hoping that the people in front of me at the self-serve checkout aisle at the grocery story will know what they are doing.
Just wondering... how many are doing this for religious reasons or just because of the fact that Lent is a traditional time when you give something up?
Didn't you just post in the GARM that you are giving up bashing Yao for lent, as long as he shaves his moustache?
Just thought I'd bump this to see how everyone is doing with what they gave up. I gave up candy and soft drinks. For some reason it's been harder this year for me. Makes me wonder how much of that stuff I was consuming before lent........but anyway.....I'm dying!!!! Just hearing the fizz of a soft drink opening makes me cringe......15 MORE DAYS! How sad And giving up candy through Valentines day was a tough one. I'm betting giving up beer through St. Patricks day would be a hard one too.
Jeez, I cracked on the "one day per week fast" after one week. I did fall back on the alternate plan...only water to drink when we go out, and we typically go out at least twice a week, plus I decided give up my daily soft drinks at work as well. I know...I suck.
giving up meat is like the hardest thing ever, who the hell can become vegetarian? i barley can get through not eating meat on Fridays and dont know why i thought I could do it for 45 days. But so far so good.
I don't do Lent, but have done the following this year. Given up smoking Given up caffiene Given up Dairy products (I take a calcium/magnesium supplement instead). My diet consists of natural sources of protein and most of the carbs from fresh vegetables. I take lots of vitamins and minerals I exercise 5 days a week The good so far is that I've went from 225 to 210 in a few months and I don't have the stomach problems that I've had off and on for 4 years.
Lately, I've been thinking how silly the no meat on Friday thing is. Well, at least how silly it is today, in our modern world. I think we need to make the rules more stringent. I mean, people are eating lobster and what not.
I had an ex-boss who converted with his entire family to Orthodox Judaism when he was 10 years old. When someone asked whyhis family gave up Christianity, he said, "We gave it up for Lent." Probably the funniest thing he ever said.
I gave up: 1) all sugary drinks. I was going to give up soda, but then realized I would just drink other sugary stuff (iced tea, lemonade) so I gave up sugary drinks. I've been drinking water and milk only. 2) ice cream 3) pizza it hasn't been that hard.
