oski it obvious you are missing the point!! And Cod, are you talking about steve's stint at the great san jac or his brilliant 1 year carrer at maryland. they retired his jersey at maryland for christ's sake. what did he ever do there???? i guess they wanted to fill their playerless rafters. if they are retiring his jersey they ought to errect a damn statue of Juan Dixon!!! at least helped them do something and was there for more than 1 year!!!!!!!!
Oski is missing the point? I rather thought he had hammered and destroyed your point into oblivion. Also, I thought Francis helped his team get into the Sweet 16. I may be mistaken. But if I'm not, I consider that a pretty decent accomplishment, and apparently so does Maryland even though he only stayed there 1 year.
Also, if you can honestly say Juan Dixon is better than Steve Francis, well, there has to be something wrong with you.
egn, You did not even make a pretense of being nice. You repeatedly claim that Steve has this huge ego who only looks out for his numbers yet your only proof is that you somehow found out Steve went to the scorer's table to ask if they recorded his block and how he has his nickname on his headrests. This information, is at best suspect, and unless you enlighten us all on how you got it, it will remain so . Even if it is true, so what? You overlook the fact that he works his butt off to get where he is constantly looking for ways to improve. He has a huge burning desire to make it to the playoffs as he has repeatedly said. He may make bad decisions sometimes on the court, but I for one do not question his heart. His effort should prove he's not all about the numbers. Oski has repeatedly pointed out that Steve's shots have gone down over the course of the season. I may be ignorant like you claim, but I don't ignore these facts. In fact, whenever someone provides evidence contrary to your opinion, you conveniently ignore those as well choosing instead to call them "amateurs" or that they're "missing the point." You should then forgive me for not taking your claims of my ignorance very seriously.
Myco my sarcasm has dried you up, so i will quinch your thirst with a few things. i was at the game. and near the scorers table. but what struck me was that how he had just said "i'm not all about my numbers" (as printed that morning) only to make sure he gets his numbers. this may not be much to you but to me that says alot about his character. i just can not see players like mcgrady or even kobe doing something of this nature. as for him looking to improve??? i've not seen steve improve one facet of his game in 4 years. he may be looking but he is not trying very hard!!! as far as his "burning desire to make the playoffs". who in the NBA dosent? saying and doing are 2 different things. his play on the court should back this up. as far as his shots going down.... they had to. when you add a player of yao's status everyone has to give up attemps. oski i believe was missing my point and there are people of amatuer status wasting their breath. i almost forgot..... "the francis ego thing". how about saying you're not going to play for "that" team. he's still paying for that one. (ala olyimpic selection commitee) Like he's Lebron James or something. laugh
Well, since all of you are basing Lebron's performance on 1 game against JR Bremer, why not base Steve's performance on 1 game against the same JR Bremer, just to be fair. And no, Steve did not score those 29.5 points on JR cuz he didn't even get to play any mins first time around. And that 1 game he definitely torched Steve. But let's even suppose he did outperform Bremer, Steve is an all-star who's called the Franchaise, JR Bremer is a rookie that wasn't even drafted. If SF doesn't outplay him I personally would be very depressed.
the second game. steve scored 26, got 9 dimes. bremer like 22 points and had 5 dimes. i dont see how he "definitely torched Steve" like you say he did. steve didnt play D. whats new? bremer shut him down? Hell no.
Listen, dominating H.S. has provided at least a glimpse of what was to come from players in the NBA. Now it is you that is the fool if you can't recognize this. And we're not talking about "the best that ever played the game" based on "dominating" in H.S. or the CBA. We're talking about recognizing the skill and talent that a player has at that young age. Lebron (and Yao) will be up there. It think it is YOU that is exaggerating. Yao will become one of the most dominating players in the future. What's the problem? Not enough room up there for LeBron? Could it be jealousy? Deal with it! You can player hate all you want. It will happen for Lebron.
I dont think you picked up on my sarcasm. Anyway, I just plain disagree on the fact that he's not trying very hard. I've read numerous articles stating how hard he practices. As for his play backing up his statements on the playoffs, I believe they do. There were plenty of things that went wrong this season, and Steve contributed some, but look how close they came to making the playoffs. I don't think they would have gotten that close without Steve and his desire. Granted, coming close is not making the playoffs, but I still think he played to win. Also, you say that with Yao on your team, your shot attempts have to go down. This is not such a given when a player cares only about his numbers. I doubt Ricky Davis would have decreased his shot attempts with Yao on his team. I still do not know what point Oski was missing. I don't know what qualifies you to call other people amateurs either. As for your little tidbit on the olympic selection commitee, I have no idea what you're referring to. I was under the impression that he very much wanted to play for "that" team. I'm glad he's not Lebron James. The future may change my opinion on that, but that's for the future to say.
are you crazy!!!! the rockets even coming close to the playoffs was directly due to the addition of YAO!!!! without yao they were pretty much the same underachieving team that got them the #1 pick! stu jackson, the former gm of the grizz, whom steve told would not play for his team, now is part of the usa basketball selection committee. word has it (from the francis camp) that jackson has it out for steve.... hence he is not part of the team.
Really? I mean, my memory might not be as good as it used to be, but 2 years ago, Steve led this team to 45 wins as opposed to last seasons 43. Who knows what could have happened the year before Yao came as that was the year that Francis missed a huge chunk of games with migraines and played quite a few games with the same debilitating migraines (if he could fool coaches and doctors into thinking he was ok). I guess he just wanted to add to his stats. I mean, logically, an ego maniac who is all about himself would not risk the kind of injury that he could suffer running around an NBA court with half of his vision impaired. But logic doesn't fly with you EGN, does it? Just admit it, you don't like Francis. Nobody will think less of you, it's ok to not like somebody. Just, you know, don't make up some bull s*** and call people names when they shoot holes all through your argument.
I don't know if this has been brought up or not, but Francis has shown that he really can be more of a "true" PG at times. Just look at his all star game appearances; he's not egomaniacally jacking up shots looking for points and such. He runs the offense and passes the ball around. You can make the argument that that there are 4 players on the court better than him, but it does show that he CAN be a true PG. He has just been called upon to take on the scoring load because, let's face it, the Rockets have been an offensively challenged team. We have the potential to blow up for 100 ppg, but it doesn't happen too often. Steve's not in it for himself, purely. He has shown that through his play. LeBron, on the other hand, has only paid lip service to team play. He still hasn't played an NBA game; he might turn out to be more of an egomaniac on and off the court than you think Steve is. So let's just wait it out.
So the truth is out. A Yao-only fan. If you had said as much in the beginning I wouldn't have been so amateurish and wasted my breath.
shoot holes?? i guess you are talking about the year when dream was still on the team. tb - i dont want to get into it again but i guess taking 12 shots in the all-star game just isnt enough. according to whoever thats only 4 off his regular season average. did i mention he missed all 12 of his attemps getting his lone point from the free throw line. i guess he might have been scared off the second time around.
Alas, you are an ass. Francis IS a superstar. He may not be the greatest thing since MJ (nor does he think he is, like you're implying), but Rockets fans aren't the only ones who think he's one of the best gaurds in the game. Also, Lebron isn't gonna be lighting up ANYBODY next year. Soon, but not next year. You need to pull your head out of the Lebron-hype... or your ass, where ever it is at this point... Oh, and like Lebron doesn't have an ego the size of Uranus? Puh-leeez!
His play on the court DOES back that up(well at least his emotions did). I saw many occasions toward the end of the season where he got techs or other silly fouls out of frustration. Now I am not at all trying to say that this is a good thing, but it does show he cares about winning and how his team does. IMO, these were because he knew that we were yet again not going to make the playoffs and he was understandably pissed. That doesn't sound like a player that's after his numbers only. Also, whenever his shot wasn't there(maybe not at the start of the season, i couldn't catch all of those games), he didn't try to force it. Instead, he didn't shoot and tried to get the ball to the open man. I know my explanation for him not being all about his numbers is a little week, but I think that it is true. Plus your reason for him being all about his numbers is also weak, so we're on the same level
Amare was 20. Not your average High School-to-NBA age. If Lebron does do some real damage next year, trust me, I'll eat my words.
