LeBron James to be named MVP

MIAMI -- The worst-kept secret among NBA award recipients will be formally revealed Sunday when Miami Heat star LeBron James is named Most Valuable Player for the fourth time, league sources confirmed Friday.

James has been voted MVP for the second straight season and for the fourth time in the past five years. He'll join Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain with at least four MVP awards.

The only suspense remaining is in the final tally and how far James has distanced himself in the voting from other candidates this season that include Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Heat are scheduling an awards presentation Sunday, and James will also be presented the MVP trophy by NBA commissioner David Stern at AmericanAirlines Arena at the start of their second-round series next week in Miami.

The only question is whether Lebron can eclipse Kareem.

Should have been 5 in a row, but Lebron was the villain of the NBA his 1st year in South Beach.

    I don't think so.

Derrick Rose is a special player too and made his team a contender in a short amount of time. He deserved that award.

That's a bit of a stretch. Can we at least wait till his career is over?

Nope, in my eyes, he's already a strong #2. Only question remaining is if he'll ever pass Jordan.

Derrick Rose is a phenomenal player, but I still think Lebron should have won, in hindsight. At the time I, along with millions of others, hated Lebron for what he did to Cleveland and wanted him to lose so bad.

    Look at their numbers

Higher FG%, better TS%, better PER, better win shares, better DRtg, better ORtg, etc. and all with a slightly lower usage rate.

I don't have a strong issue with Rose getting the award, but he was not as good as LeBron. In the playoffs, that season, in crunch time, the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter, Lebron consistently shut Rose down.

Also above all that, my argument against Rose that year was that he was a good offensive player and a bad defensive player on a team that was elite because of their historically good defense. Rose makes a good team into a great team. Lebron makes a bad team into a great team.

He needs to win a couple more championships first. At least tie Wilt with 2 before ranking him that high.
