Here's where he got it, http://www.propagandamatrix.com/090204changeceos.html and here's the full article, interesting, uhh, reading. And by the way, the Bill he is talking about is the sinister Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 -- which I feel is a good law, for reasons that are too extensive for me to list. http://www.the10b-5daily.com/archives/000276.html Any way, to say that the bill enabled Lay or Enron to do anything any more than the First Amendment, the Magna Charta, or the Yonkers, NY municipal telephone directory, is uhhh, inaccurate, to say the least. I don't like to use the rolleyes much, but with regard to the author's interpretation of the PSLRA, let me say

Wow, so you regularly read counterpunch and newsmax? A true renaissance man. I like the reference to Citigroup "Enron's Bank". Citigroup is my bank too, as well as the bank to hundreds of millions of Americans and businesses too. That's like saying "Bush support is strong in Houston, Enron's city" "Ron413 is a fan of the Houston Rockets, Enron's favorite basketball team!" This one's for you, mr. radical wannabe socialist conspiracy theorist:
It is something called Google. You should try it sometime after you get done watching Fahrenheit 9/11, & listening to the Dixie Chicks You got to love it... JOHN KERRY’S HYPOCRISY -- Turns Out Cash And Kerry Is A PAC Man Republican National Committee | Feb 10, 2004 | SEN. JOHN KERRY’S HYPOCRISY, VOL. I, ISSUE 6 Turns Out Cash And Kerry Is A PAC Man ___________________________________________________________________ Candidate Kerry: “I’m the only person serving in the United States Senate today who has been elected four times without ever accepting in any of my races one dime of political action committee money.” (Sen. John Kerry, NBC’s “Today,” 2/5/04) “Kerry also tried to draw a line between taking money from individuals and taking political action committee checks, which he never did. ‘The maximum I set for myself was $1,000 check and that’s all I ever took.’” (Noelle Straub, “Dean Rips Insider John,” Boston Herald, 2/1/04) CANDIDATE KERRY ATTACKS SPECIAL INTERESTS AND PAC MONEY, CASH AND KERRY RUNS HIS OWN SOFT AND HARD MONEY PACS Eight Months After Voting To Ban National Party Soft Money, Kerry Created His Own Soft Money Committee Called Citizen Soldier Fund, Which Accepted Large Corporate Soft Money Contributions. (S. 27, CQ Vote #64: Passed 59-41: R 12-38; D 47-3, 4/2/01, Kerry Voted Yea; Year End 2001 Report For Citizen Soldier Fund - Non-Federal Account, IRS Website, www.irs.gov, Accessed 1/29/04) Kerry’s Soft Money Committee Collected “More Than $470,000 Directly From Companies And Unions In 2002.” (John Solomon, “Kerry, Edwards Boasts About Special Interest Money Don’t Tell Whole Story,” The Associated Press, 2/2/04) And Kerry Created His Own Hard Money PAC, Also Called Citizen Soldier Fund, Which Raised Over $700,000. (Federal Election Commission Website, www.fec.gov, Accessed 2/10/04) CASH AND KERRY’S “PAC-FREE” SENATE CAMPAIGN CLAIMS FALSE Contrary To Candidate Kerry’s Claims, “The Public Record Shows That Kerry Was Neither The First Nor The Only” Senator Elected Three Times Without PAC Money. “As a presidential candidate, John F. Kerry has repeatedly railed against the corruptive influence of special-interest money in politics, and has proudly declared on various occasions that he is the only or first person elected to the US Senate three times without taking campaign contributions from political action committees. ... But the public record shows that Kerry was neither the first nor the only senator elected three times without money from political action committees. ... David L. Boren appears to be the first person elected three times to the Senate without PAC money, in 1978, 1984, and 1990.” (Glen Johnson, “Doubt Cast On Kerry’s ‘Pac-Free’ Claim,” The Boston Globe, 6/12/03) TURNS OUT CASH AND KERRY RAISED THOUSANDS IN PAC MONEY IN ‘72 AND ‘82 CAMPAIGNS Kerry Now Admits He Took PAC Money In 1972 House Bid And 1982 Lt. Governor’s Race. “Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter confirmed Kerry took the PAC money in 1972, and another small amount in 1982 when he ran for Massachusetts lieutenant governor, before abandoning such donations starting with his 1984 run for the Senate. ‘In his first public race 32 years ago, John Kerry took money from autoworkers, teachers, electricians, and Democratic groups that account for 5 percent of the money he raised in a losing House race,’ the spokeswoman said.” (John Solomon and Aparna H. Kumar, “Kerry Pocketed Speaking Fees,” The Associated Press, 2/9/04) In 1972, Kerry Accepted Nearly $20,000 In PAC Contributions. “[R]ecords from his unsuccessful race for the House in 1972 show Kerry collected about $20,000 from PACs, most of them associated with labor unions. For instance, the AFL-CIO’s PAC gave him $3,000, and the railway clerks’, autoworkers’ and state, county and municipal workers’ PACs donated $500 apiece.” (John Solomon and Aparna H. Kumar, “Kerry Pocketed Speaking Fees,” The Associated Press, 2/9/04) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q Does the President have anything to say about the unsealing of the indictment against Ken Lay? MR. McCLELLAN: Well, Bill, I don't think it's appropriate for the White House to discuss any specific criminal case. However, I'm more than happy to talk to you about this administration's commitment to cracking down on wrongdoing. One of the President's top priorities is to crack down on corporate wrongdoing and strengthen corporate accountability. And we have a record of accomplishment in that area. This President has worked to go after those wrongdoers and directed his administration to pursue those who are dishonest in the boardroom. The President has made it very clear that we will not tolerate dishonesty in the boardroom. This administration worked to uncover abuses and scandals in the corporate arena, and certainly the President's concern is with those workers and other people who have been harmed by corporate wrongdoing. And that's where his focus will continue to be. Q But this particular alleged corporate wrongdoer was a personal friend of the President's, who the President addressed as "Kenny, boy," who raised a lot of money for the President in the 2000 election cycle, who offered corporate jets to the President for travel in Texas. He did know him well. Does he -- MR. McCLELLAN: Well, you seem to want to be fairly selective there, because let me point out that he was someone who supported Democrats and Republicans, alike, including the President, as you pointed out. Q Well, is that all the President had to say? MR. McCLELLAN: That's how I would describe the relationship, and I think it's an accurate way to describe the relationship. Q Does President Bush consider Ken Lay a personal friend? And did the White House have any communication with the Justice Department leading up to the indictment? MR. McCLELLAN: No. This is a Justice Department matter, and we expect the Justice Department to do their job when it comes to cracking down on corporate wrongdoing. In terms of the question you asked about Mr. Lay, the President has already addressed that, and he described it the way I did, as well.
BUSH VS. KERRY in the "WHO GOT MO' MONEY FROM WHO?" battle of the century. No matter who wins, the donors win. Bush and Kerry are both taking bribes. One may be worse than the other, but that doesn't negate the fact that they are each taking huge wads of cash from companies that are trying to buy a dominant voice in national policies, to the detriment of the rest of us. These companies don't became massive by making investments that don't pay off. The liberal vs. conservative, democrat vs. republican (or whatever) conflict is rather meaningless (in this context, at least) when it only amounts to debating which candidate accepts the more controversial bribes.
I serious doubt that . . .i bet he got money all over the world I also seriously doubt he will spent 1 DAY in jail Rocket River
I can't believe they're still playing off this lame line. Actually, screw it, I can believe, I would expect nothing lesss from this crew and their preferred MO --"The president never technically said the words "imminent danger", he just said urgent peril" , etc etc etc. -- of using semantics, technicalities, half truths, and willful blindness to cover for what are simply described as "lies". This isn't even a particularly good one (a harbinger of such is that it was T_J's go to line here -- kiss of death). Of course they gave money to both parties, all rich people & entities do such, hell I know that one of the local former heads of Wesley Clark's fundraising committee has also given the maximum 2k to GWB; it's simply good business practice. That doesn't make him a Republican or a GWB supporter. More on this:
