Ploy to keep Lay from talking around election time, also to make GWB look distant from Lay? Honest coincidence, or was he Chalabized!?!? Discuss Warning: gratuitous Lay-Bush shot ahead (NSFW...just kidding.) Bush's comments on Lay in January 2002, textbook half truth/exaggeration of his: Tee hee: note: Lay and Enron and execs devoted lots of cash to Bush in 94 and prior -- Lay also did the token "rich person" donation thing of donating money to both parties candidates, allowing GWB to make that claim and the intentionally misleading implications it carries. "Ken Lay? Barely knew him, He was a supporter of Ann Richards in my run in 1994, I once may have sent him Tejano Santa Claus or two."
It's about freaking time. I hope this "man" rots in prison for a long time. What he did to the American people is absolutely disgusting.
I really don't care if any of the Enron folks go to jail or not. What I really want the Feds to do is to make them broke. I'm talking "eating Government cheese over the kitchen sink" broke. Broker than the people they made broke. The best way to screw with greedy people is to hit them hard in the wallet.
According to some reports Lay's net worth has gone from 400 - 600 million to less than 1 million. So I would image after lawyer's fees he will be broke. I agree that is better justice than seeing him go to jail for a couple of years.
Maybe I am missing something, but how does sending a birthday message to someone after two years as governer, or sending a print to someone after four years as governer disprove a statement that you were not friends with the same person before becoming governer? I mean, he claimed that he got to know Ken Lay after becoming governer, and then you show two bits of correspondence from when he was governer.
"no, mr. president. don't just say he was a friend. say he was a good friend." -- Jack Ryan, Patriot Games
You are missing something, read what I wrote write after those two pictures, which I posted to underscore the idea that they were more than just casual acquaintances. More info:
Nice try by you, did you type this while I was posting that last post and didn't see it? What fortuitous synergy -- preemptive ownage.
Not only did Enron contribute more money to the Republican party, they were George W. Bush's biggest financial supporter during the 2000 campaign and even donated a corporate jet for him to use as his campaign jet. Nice try, T_J.
I trust then, that the liberals gave back every dime that Enron ever gave them? This would remove all conflict of interest. Oh, what's that you say? The liberals didn't do that? Then you have no leg to stand on. Your argument is destroyed.

Back on Topic... Prickly aren't we... US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) walks away from a briefing with the media, refusing to answer questions after he was asked about Enron and the reported indictment of former CEO Kenneth Lay, who was a close adviser and fund-raiser for Bush and his father, earning him the presidential nickname of 'Kenny Boy.'(AFP/Paul J. In 1995, Kerry cast the deciding vote to override Clinton's veto of the very bill used by Enron and Citigroup to conduct their now well-known consumer rip-offs. Speaking of Teresa Heinz, she heads up the Heinz Environmental Defense Fund. The fund's most prominent board members since 1995 is none other than Enron's Ken Lay. Enron's bank, Citigroup, has been a major contributor to Kerry's various campaigns.
