i don't know if it's true, but I read a quick blurb about how eBay may try to regulate ps3 auction prices...

Might be true, but I really wouldn't put any stock at all in what gamestop employees have to say.

I actually trust the gamestop employee I've been talking with. If I find out something, I'll post it.

PS3 comes out on November 17th in the US. Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-mart, Gamestop/EB Games, and probably a few other stores will be getting some for sure I would think. Those make up most of the games sales IIRC. There was some story about TRU supporting the Wii and not the PS3, but I can't remember if that meant they weren't going to be selling them, or if they were just going to put more focus on the Wii.

If you want to get a PS3 on launch day, all I can tell you is good luck. Especially if you don't want to spend more than $500-$600 for it.

Some online info from RadioOPM (summary by Y2Kevbug11 at NeoGAF):
Also, it is being rumored that Talladega Nights will be included in every PS3 (the Blu-ray version of course).

what? i thought ps3 was coming out in the spring. well anyways, i am surprised that you all are saying that the ps3's demand will be so high when the system itself costs freakin $600.

I'm not sure how high demand will be but supply is going to be so low that it will be impossible to measure demand. They are going to sell out their initial stock, but as to how many potential buyers will be locked out is another issue.

No, the PS3 is still set for a release here in the US on Nov 17th. It got delayed to spring 2007 in Europe though...and, of course, the original release was in the spring, but of 2006 (though where they "planned" on launching it, I don't know).

It is true that the price makes it difficult to sell the PS3, but given the small quantities, price will hardly be a factor for the remainder of the year. IIRC, 40+K 360s were sold through eBay last year, and most of those were going for $800 or more IIRC. I think a similar thing happened with the PS2, and I'm guessing it will happen for the PS3 too (especially since the PS brand is stronger than the XBX brand). The PS3 should also be selling to people who want a Blu-ray player; the PS3 will be the cheapest (and possibly the best) Blu-ray player when it launches. If it provides Slingbox-type functionality for the PSP, I guess some PSP owners might not have a problem getting a PS3 at that price either.

Now once spring comes along (or sometime around there, depending on what the supply is like), the PS3 might start being a tough sell...though I guess the European launch might help things out here. Maybe more like the summer or fall. I'd like a $50-$100 price cut like they got in Japan around then. :)

Exactly how much demand won't matter when there are so few systems out, and people will be looking for more than one reason (i.e. sell them on Ebay).

Most system 'launches' tend to sell out anyway. You don't get a real idea of demand until there are extras in stores.
