He's got good D, but he makes questionable decisions when leading a fastbreak and is a volume shooter. We really don't have a need for another guy to put up a high number of shots. We need to focus on getting a Kurt Thomas/Udonis Haslem type player. Unfortunately, that's one heck of a trick. Evan
Dwayne Wade torched him. He's an Allen Iverson and L James type defender. LH, LJ and AI are great off the ball defenders, but when it comes to one on one, on the ball defense, they're not that great. They don't want to expend energy on the defensive end, so they cheat on defense by trying to go for broke (steals). They gamble on defense, that's why they get the steals. However, they're beaten quite often on one. Shawn Marion, Bruce Bowen, Andre Iguodala, Prince, Andres Nocioni, T-Mac (not a full time defensive player because of his offensive load) are great one on one defenders. People look at statistics (steals) to determine how a good a player is defensively. LH is a good defender, he's not first team. A more telling statistic are a) forced turnovers b) blocks/defensive rebounds. To play great defense you have to make it difficult on the offensive player (missed shots/turnovers) and also finish the defensive plays by getting the defensive rebounds. I would rate David Wesley (with exception of Dallas series where he was overmatched) and T-Mac as better defenders than Hughes.
