Its clear I have a hardware problem with my laptop. Sometimes it wont boot up, but the lights turn on. I was told to bleed the laptop by taking the battery out and holding the power button down. I then reconnected the powercord and it started fine. I worked for an hour before it shut down on me. I was able to restart it, and it went for a little while longer, and then finally it was back to lights turning on with a blank screen. It is becoming clear there is a hard ware problem, maybe an overheating or board problem. The thing is just a couple of months out of warranty. Best Buy, Comp USA, MicroCenter are what Compaq/HP recommends and I would like to get it serviced soon. But those guys want $95 just to "look at it" before they ship it off. Anyone have any experience with these places in this regard? Is there a cheaper way to get this serviced?
What type of laptop is it? Like Dell has a diagnostics you can download from their site that will assist in identifying where the problem may lie if it's a hardware issue. I believe HP/Compaq and Gateway have similar utilities to download as well.
^^^somebodies got a lot of time on their hands! I figured I would get a better response if I adressed this as a laptop issue. From what I learned yesterday, there is a world of difference between PC and laptop service. Everyone thinks they can do PC repair, Nobody wants to do laptop repair, but they will charge you to look at it before you send it off.
If you can get to them, try re-seating your memory chips. Also, I would tighen all the screws on the chassis after re-seating memory.
hey is it a compaq? i just had pretty much the same problem, and the guy i talked to tried all options of fixing it on the fone, when that didnt work he had fesex pick it up and have it back at my door in 2 days. completely fixed. it was still in its 1 year warranty. pretty sweet if you ask me. and if your almost done iwth your warranty, just get an extended one, repair your pc then cancell it.
dunno man, just go to compaq.com and try to extend it, and argue that you bought the laptop later than what the warranty shows, and you dont have the receipt anymore. good luck man, they did scratch up the outside of my laptop pretty bad, but the inside works like new(well atleast the screen) what laptop is it btw?
Man, my friend had a problem like that and it turned out that his laptop was simply was overheating. Dunno know how/if it could've been fixed. He got impatent and pissed and threw it in the Arkansas River.
