My work laptop has this annoying flaw that makes the cursor jump into an earlier part of the document when I am typing and start inserting text where it doesn't belong. I have a mouse attached to the laptop and there is a trackball in the middle so the trackpad only gets used when I don't want it to. I searched around the internets and see no solution. Any XP gurus know how to disable the trackpad? Best case scenario is when the mouse is plugged in the trackpad turns off, but I will take anything at this point.
Either this, or your Laptop shipped with some kind of proprietary software that controls the mouse settings. I can't really help you more since you didn't put the make and model of the laptop.
IBM T42. Running Windows XP. I looked in the mouse CP and I didn't see anything there about the trackpad.
I think this will work. I can't test it, though, at the moment. I know some laptops will also give you the option to disable it in BIOS. Start->My Computer Right click on my computer and select properties. Select the tab "Hardware" Press the button "Device Manager" In the new window, expand "mice and other pointing devices" Once should be there for your attached mouse, and one for the trackpad. Highlight the trackpad, right click, and select disable.
