Landry

I believe that we'd still have 16 with Scola. I guess that one of the group Butler, Harris, Landry, Novak will not make the roster. I assume it will be Harris, but from what I have seen, I prefer Harris over Landry.

Completely agree... Not too impressed with Landry, but I love Harris game. Really hope they keep him.

 

This offseason is turning out much better than I anticipated.

Perhaps its beginner's luck with Morey.

 

Forgot about Scola. My choice would be between cutting Harris or trading Snyder for nothing.

Snyder is the most athletic guy on the team. I can't see letting him go unless he reports to camp with a sorry attitude or is out of shape. If Snyder comes to camp an improved player who is determined to force the coaches to play him, he's definitely a keeper. On the other hand, it's 100% guaranteed that Harris would see very little court time if he makes the roster.

I would keep Novak because he is a specialist player and should get another season to show something. If Novak ever learns to keep his stroke in game situations (on a consistent basis), he could be a valuable member of the team. If he flames out in preseason and Harris looks really good, maybe I change my mind. Novak hit just enough 27 footers to keep me interested.

 

The final ticket to the 15 roster comes down to Novak, Snyder, Harris and Landry. If both Hayes and Deke are re-signed. Out of the four I like Harris's game during the SL, think Novak is a keeper (you guys can criticize his SL performance whatsoever), Snyder is a known commodity so...is there a way to keep Landry but let him play somewhere else, so that we don't have to use one of the 15 on him? For those suggested NBDL, it won't work because that is counted into the 15 roster.

 

Agree with you on Harris, I just don't see him playing at all.

 

What do you think BEX? You think we should Landry or what? Just curious.

 

Newley and Jake aren't even Rockets.

 

Not a terrible comparison... though I don't see Landry having quite the ball handling ability Williamson has, nor do I think Landry moves around quite as well (raw numbers where speed is concerned might be similar, but Landry just isn't as fluid). Williamson could really score on anybody in his prime, he never gets enough credit... don't see Landry ever getting there.

Then again, I could see Landry being a bit more of a shotblocker and rebounder, so it's all good. If we ended up with a Corliss Williamson-level player with a 2nd-round pick, I'm a happy man.

of course, though, landry, night in and night out, was always against a bigger pf AND an actual center a la chris kaman for example. On our team, our center spot was usualyl filled by NOvak or some other tall but out of position player, notably giving Landry a tough job night in night out. he did decent even though was undersized to the extreme, since our center.. novak... for the mahority of the game would not be in the post. This is also why he had a lot of free throw attempts vs fgs. anyway, the point is he could have done a lot better in sl with an actual center.

I am wondering if we can not sign Landry this year, let him sign his own contract in the NDBL, some other small pro league or overseas, while we retain his rights. He would have to sit out all levels of pro basketball for a whole year to become a free agent. I know this is common with European players.

Or would this just be a bad idea (realy tee off Landry and agents) even if we could do it.

I am really unsure if he is worth a roster spot over an LEE or league min vet PF signee or even Harris. Thoughts?

 

Well first I want to say that I think Carl does deserve a roster spot.

This is kinda a tricky issue you have here. I don't think that it's possible for him to sign another contract while we retain his rights. It would be more of a situation where if Landry really wants to be here then maybe he would be willing to do that but that's about it.

Trust me, if we don't move on sign him or give him a roster spot someone esle will snatch him up and make us look really stupid down the road.

 

I don't think he did better than harris, but i think he had a tough job the whole summer league because he was forced to guard centers most of the time. He was pretty good when going against PFs in that game vs kings. Maybe he jsut had tough luck on those 5 games, but we could clearly see that he has some offensive touch as well as being serviceable on the defensive end. Most of the time he didn't have that much help on the glass because we had Novak helping him. He'll get a shot to prove his worth during training camp. I'm sure theres a reason why Daryl Morey drafted him at 31 over all the other PFs available at the time.
