Today is the day. The Democratic primary in Connecticut. The latest poll had Lieberman cutting Lamont's lead in half. A lot of that may have been due to the fallout over Lamont's Wal Mart stock, and the blackface Lieberman photo on a blog. But Lamont still has a six point lead. So, what is your prediction ?

I think it is going to be really close. I think the Democratic establishment is going to give Lieberman a boost in the "get out the vote" effort. They probably want Lieberman to win because they like him personally (some "bloggers" have really turned Lieberman into a one dimensional cartoon character and dehumanized and villified him, but I guess that is politics) and because they fear what Lamont's victory could do to the power structure in the party.

I guess they fear the grassnet movement (which basically elevated Lamont) because of how wide open and unpredictable the internet is, in general. They can't control the message on the blogs. Imagine if certain websites were seen, by the media, as having some legitimacy within the party and then a random blogger says something completely out of line and Republicans pounce on it, calling it "an example of the Democratic mindset," or whatever. I don't know.

Who is going to win ?

Just five years ago today, your President was playing with his terrier on his ranch while Osama Bin Laden was finalizing his plans for 9-11.

Osama is still on the loose, by the way.

Just 8 years ago, Bill Clinton was wetting his cigars in Monica Lewinski while Osama plotted... how far back shall we go?

Republicans, give it up, your guy had the watch for 9MONTHS prior to 9-11, had a memo from the CIA tell the President Osama planning to attack the US!
Their defense? "well,.....we didn't have the date of the attack." so they ignored it.

Well I don't know about the CT race for Senate. But I did find the latest Washington Post poll very interesting....

Buried deep in the guts of the poll was this nugget.

    6. Which political party, the (Democrats) or the (Republicans), do you trust to do a better job handling (ITEM)?

    The U.S. campaign against terrorism

    Democrats 46% Republicans 38%

If true, this is a seismic shift in the thinking of the American people! Lots of very interesting numbers in their latest poll.

To when Reagan let Hezbollah murder 200+ US Marines....and did NOTHING.

That empowered anti-american terrorism more than any action or inaction since the Iraq war - that essentially marked the turning point.

I wonder what t-shirt IDF fans these days tend to say about that, since they are frequently seen agitating to get old Ronnie on currency.

Israel's occupation of Lebanon, and Reagan's decision to have those troops their in those numbers. As Jesse Jackson said, there were too many to die, and too few to fight.

I believe bassmaster is hinting at the Iranian hostage crisis - but I didn't see Ronaldo do too much after that either, except for selling arms to them a few years later. Hell at least Jiminy Carter tried (and failed, unfortunately) to get them out with force.

Well it is possible that Reagan's decision to arm the Iranians militarily was a contributor, but I think basso is being too harsh on Ronnie to jump to the causation there.

You left out a word, giddy. Some idiot altered a photo of Lieberman and put him in blackface and posted it on a liberal blog. Someone who obviously doesn't know his history in the civil rights movement. Just a stupid incident, denounced by everyone except said idiot.

I don't, but it is the kind of thing he has actually been caught doing before. He did plant bugs in his own office and then blamed it on the opposing candidate before.
