By extending an offer to Coach K the Lakers have completely disrespected Rudy T as a candidate for the job. Some reports had Jerry BUs telling Rudy it was his job to turn down. Mitch is proving more and more why he is a loser GM after this maneuver. If Coach K declines the offer why would Rudy want to come back and be sloppy seconds????? Then the Lakers will be in major trouble. Mitch has single handedly destroyed the Dynasty that Jerry West constructed. FIRE HIM MR. Buss!!!!!
Didn't RT tear up his contract with the Rockets, so he could interview with the Fakers? All that money gone.
That's actually good news. I would never want to see him working w/ Laker purple and gold. That's like having an affair.
huh? if Rudy T. isn't on another bench next year he'll be getting a 6 million dollar paycheck to "scout"
How is looking to hire one of the greatest coaches in basketball history disrespect to Rudy? I mean, I love Rudy T, but Krzyzewski is an all-time great himself. 1. John Wooden 2. Red Auerbach 3. Dean Smith 4. Larry Brown 5. Coach K That's how I see it, personally. I don't think it's a disrespect to Rudy to pursue him.
I agree and don't think it's disrespectful to Rudy. That said, I personally would vote for Rudy in a heartbeat if we were faced with that choice. This is admittedly probably influenced by my biased loyalty to Rudy, but Coach K is one of the greatest college coaches in basketball history, yet recent forays by successful college coaches to the pros have not been very successful. Larry Brown is somewhat of a lone exception to the recent rule and it took him quite awhile to get an NBA championship. It will be interesting to see what happens if Krzyzewski accepts, since you'll have successfull NCAA guys coaching a recent contender (L.A.) and a team that can never seem to get out of the lottery (Montgomery in Oakland). Wherever Rudy lands, that will instantly become my 2nd favorite team. He really will be a Rocket for life in my book, no matter what the Rockets or anyone else do to him.
Well, Rudy didn't give them an answer in a week. You have to keep in mind that they don't want to hang themselves on one tree.
I was listening to S.CA am1150 and heard that it was Kobe's choice. And coach K got flamed by Rome which is burning ...
In addition to what's been said... IMHO, next years Lakers = last years Magic. Lakers are gonna spend so much on Kobe that they won't be able to build enough talent around him to win games. So, Kobe will get great numbers in a losing effort (like McGrady in Orlando last year). Therefore, (again IMHO), no matter what coach the Lakers get, they are doomed. If I were Rudy, I might turn that down. -- droxford
Yeah, I was gonna mention that. This thing just tells you how the Lakers are bending over backward to retain Kobe. If I were Rudy, I wouldn't want to work in an organization like that, especially when I still have a "job" and can afford to wait for a better place to work.
Maybe they just let Kobe be player/coach/GM. I hate that arrogant b*stard and cant wait to see the Lakers be mediocre again.
I would bet that Wooden, Dean Smith, and Coach K would all be Hall of Fame NBA coaches as well as college.
Coach K is an unproven commodity at the pro-level. It is disrepecting Rudy. Good luck with rolling the dice, LA. Many big time college coaches have failed in the NBA.
Everything I have heard and read says that Kobe demanded they try to get Coach K. So they are trying to get him. I don't think there is much of a chance he gets the job and I think Rudy still has the inside track to getting it.
