Anyone reading this? I went on a trip recently and had to have something to read on the flight and picked up a copy of it. I'm not what you would call a big Nirvana/Cobain fan but I did like some of his music. I had heard about the book and saw it at the store...thumbed through some of it and it looked interesting enough to purchase. I've read about half of it. I like the way they published it. They made exact copies of his writing and made pages out of them...you see the spiral notebook and all. It's some pretty interesting stuff from a messed up kid. The journal starts before he became a big star. I enjoyed reading the earlier stuff as he tried to get thier music on a label. You can tell that the drugs really started to mess him up as the book goes along. It's really no surprise his life ended the way that it did.
I think it ended with ... "Dear Diary...I have a tremendous headache today." I'd like to apologize in advance for this post...I just couldn't resist.
Just when you think Courtney Love can't w**** herself out anymore, she publishes her husbands private journals. It must be time for a face lift or a t!t job. No one deserves this kind of treatment from aquaintances, relatives, or friends, much less a wife.
I read alot of it. It is pretty funny. I guess I would reccomend it (I have no idea what the book costs).
You must be demented or stupid. I am no fan of Gobain really, but I find no humor in a manic depressive drug addict struggling with mental issues. I think it is so sad that Love would sell out and publish these journals just to make a buck.
Good article about Cobain's Diary: http://stacks.msnbc.com/news/822516.asp And some of the Journal can be read here: http://stacks.msnbc.com/news/823463.asp
Nirvana has a unique quality. All of there songs sound "right". Not even my favorite band DMB matches them on that. Every single Nirvana song, from start to finish sounds "right". The only other musician that can compare in my mind would be Frederick Chopin.
I have heard they are really interesting. That's the kind of thing I don't think I would ever buy for myself, but I'd love to get it as a gift . . .
Are you sure she is getting the money from this? I thought I read someone else had control of the journals but I may be wrong.
Obviously you haven't read the book, which doesn't surprise me. There are some funny parts in the book. And yes, there are some depressing and sad parts as well. His drug addiction was no laughing matter. That doesn't mean the book didn't contain some humor. Why don't you at least do some research before calling someone "demented or stupid"? It'll make you look smarter than you currently appear.
Didn't Cobain write somewhere in the journal that he hoped he died before he became Peter Townsend? I heard that really pissed Townsend off, which is pretty damn funny.
First off, sorry for the typo. Second, I apologize for the harsh language; it should have been a more cautious statement. Yeah, I have read some of it. Unfortunately, I don't have time to read all of it right now, but I got a pretty decent picture of what the book was about, but not the entire picture. Anyways, the reason I did use the words that I did to describe the post was that he singularly described it "pretty funny." I mean, there are probably some funny anecdotes or whatever in it, but from the parts that I have read, and a couple articles about the book, it seems pretty naive to simply characterize it as "pretty funny." I think the overall picture painted is one not primarily colored with humor. It seems much more bleak. I don't think if i did read the entire thing that I would come away feeling warm or anything. Anyways, sorry if that offended anyone. I just didn't think that it was an accurate description. I would guess that any humor in the journals more functions like the use of humor in the greek tragedies rather, which can't really be described as "pretty funny."
Because that silly prick (I'm saying it with fondness) killed himself, no one ever remembers how funny they were. Nirvana, as a group, were all really hilarious. That ball dress at the Headbanger's Ball... I *loved* that.
Thanks for the link Finn, it gave me something to read tonight before I went to bed. There is a lot to learn in there.
I guess I'm supposed to explain myself now....The parts I read were funny. But I only read only the first half or so. I never got towards end. He spouts off all kinds of stuff. Kurt ragging on the music industry guys is funny (guys coming to the shows to judge the band rather to have a good time). I was reading it over at a freinds house while battling a major hangover. I did not find it what parts I read to be that depressing. And what about that part concerning the, uh, down syndrome girl? Funny?
