Iverson is 7th in the league in assists as well at 7.3 per game to go along with 3.07 turnovers per game and 45.4% shooting. Kobe is only averaging 4.4 assists per game (his lowest average since '99) to go along with 2.86 turnovers per game and 43.7% shooting. So perhaps Iverson is an MVP candidate because he's playing extremely efficiently, something that cannot be said of Kobe.
Not quite... Iverson is averaging 7 assists a game whereas Kobe is averaging 4. Not to mention, Iverson is shooting 45.4% and Kobe's shooting 43.4%.
Allen Iverson is having one of the most incredible individual seasons in NBA history and no one is talking about it.
He is having the better season, but just how much better is it. Not much IMO. Kobe Bryant 43.7 FG% 4.4 ASTS 5.5 RBS 2.86 TO 32.7 PPG Allen Iverson 45.4 FG% 7.3 ASTS 3.5 RBS 3.1 TO 34.1 PPG Yes, Iverson is having the better season, but Kobe is not far behind. Point being, Kobe game is not deserving of the bashing he's getting. Now the way he chased off Shaq is another story.
I used to dislike Kobe but I always respected him AS A PLAYER. He is no doubt great. And invisible fan brings up good points but Kobe has to know that he actually has a good player beside him in Odom. Odom ain't no slouch. But I think Kobe thinks "if i can hit 45-50% of my shots every night, while everyone else shoots 30%, why don't i just shoot every time?". But there's a reason why everyone else shoots 30%--they don't get into rhythm. A player needs to get the ball and get into rhythm. You can't take the ball away from a teammate after they miss a couple of shots. Why? Because, like the Lakers and Kobe are proving, you can't win that way. As for AI, he's also #4 in the league in steals per game as well.
http://www.pe.com/sports/basketball/lakers/stories/PE_Sports_Local_D_lakers_27.dfcebea.html When the game was over, after the Lakers had blown their last attempt for a game-tying three-pointer, Kobe Bryant yelled at Lamar Odom for botching the play. He continued yelling at him as the team walked dejectedly off the court and didn't stop until they entered the locker room. Bryant had yelled at his teammates all game long. But he saved his harshest words for Odom at the end of Monday night's 94-91 loss to the Washington Wizards before 20,173 at the MCI Center. Bryant, who suffered a sprained right thumb while scoring 31 points, yelled at Sasha Vujacic for not getting him the ball in the second quarter. Bryant yelled at Luke Walton for taking a shot instead of passing him the ball. Bryant yelled at Devean George for taking a shot and told him, "Hey, Devean, bring me that (ball)." ---------------------------------------- It seems that 26.3 shots per game is not enough for kobe. He's forced to shoot as his teammates suck? I thought that's what he wants as he refused to play with shaq, one of the all time most dominant players shooting with extremely high FG%.
David Aldridge just repoted tonight on TNT that Kobe and Odom had to be seperated because Kobe was screaming at him. Kobe is going to be a magnet for free agents. At this point, the only guy that can stand him is probably Artest...a match made in heaven? So yah, that website posted above looks legit.
Kobe might be GOING insane but Artest embodies the word. I want to see, if they get him, whether or not Kobe would yell at Artest the way he did with Odom and see how fast the EMTs come and pick Kobe up off the Staples Center floor.
Excuse me for raining on the Laker or Kobe hate parade. I don't even like the guy, but this team clearly sucks. A Yao-less/Mutombo-less squad beat these guys when PJ was obviously experimenting with iso plays for Lamar. Sure, he should pass and score more like AI, but if you really hate Kobe so much...WHO THE HECK ARE YOU EXPECTING HIM TO BE????? He's a selfish SOB. That's fine with me. If his team makes 8th (highly doubtful), then that'll be because of Kobe given the crappy personel situation the Lakers are in. Haters just want any excuse. Lakers are losing! Kobe shoots too much! Phil sucks! etc, etc....
Peter Vecsey KOBE SHOWING NASTY SIDE MORE AND MORE December 30, 2005 -- FAR be it from me to suggest that Kobe Bryant is playing by his own set of laws, but Sam Smith is writing a sequel to "The Jordan Rules." Kobe's doing it all these days, including wearing leotards as part of the civil settlement with his Colorado consensual partner, or so column contributor John Milich would have us believe. There are the malevolent elbows of late to the heads, necks and chests of Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Caron Butler and Mike Miller, a message he's sending to anyone "who thinks they can come down the lane and look pretty and shoot jump shots, and dunk the ball, and finger-roll, and do all sort of that cute stuff." There are the two air punches directed at Josh Howard, an automatic suspension the league has neglected to levy. There is the foul mouthing of referees during and after games (Wednesday's loss to Memphis, for instance, when Kobe felt Dontae Jones fouled him on LA's next to last shot and could easily have been whistled for a charge, too). There is the verbal abuse he heaps of teammates for not giving him the ball, making open shots off his feeds and generally being mere mortals. People sitting near L.A.'s bench for the Rockets and Wizards games were flabbergasted at the things he screamed at inferiors. Hopefully his ceaseless disrespectful commotion doesn't disturb Phil Jackson's meditation. There is the smashing of lights and damaging of a TV monitor belonging to the Lakers' flagship station in front of the visitors locker room after Monday's setback in D.C. — and a near brawl with Lamar Odom that sent the above equipment flying. A source revealed (and another confirmed) things got mighty testy between Kobe and Odom moments after Bryant committed a critical turnover with about five seconds remaining on the game clock. Immediately, Kobe pinned the blame on Lamar for supposedly botching a pick-and-roll designed to stalemate the game with a 3-pointer. As the pair got closer to the Lakers' dressing room, Kobe became more uncouth and Odom, who squared off with the Heat's Gary Payton after Miami's Christmas Day win, answered in kind. That's when Kobe went after Odom. In doing so, he kicked over the lights and a chair holding the TV monitor. Kobe's security force of two quickly intervened and separated the pair. In the locker room they again exchanged heated words and challenges. The tension was so intense one of the security guys accompanied Odom to the back of the charter bus and sat nearby on the trip to the airport while the other sat in the front with Kobe, the last member of the Lakers to board. It's not as if security was unaware of what could happen. Several years ago, Bryant didn't like something Samaki Walker said after a game while they were on the bus and sucker-punched him from behind. What's next for Kobe? Boosting a Sharpie from Terrell Owens and writing Ron Artest's number on his footwear? Peter Vecsey
Kobe's teammates sucked so much that they were .500 w/o kobe last year but somthing like 2-16 w/o odom. Funny that when he had 4 HOF teammates, he wanted more shots so that he can be "the man". Now he's "the man", he still wants more shots as his teammates suck. Apologists just want any excuse. Kobe is losing! His teammates suck! Management suck! Referees suck! etc, etc....
Now I almost wish the Lakers would get Artest, because if Kobe tried any of this crap on him, Artest would probably kick his butt. And the rest of the team would probably jump in to help Artest. Kobe has to realize that because of the rape charge, the media is not going to protect him the way they protected Jordan. Any time he acts like an a-hole, it's going to be reported. And these reports not only hurt Kobe's reputation but the league's, as people will look at Kobe and say "See, the NBA is just a bunch of selfish jerks." And if David Stern thinks Kobe is hurting the league, Kobe will suddenly start getting less leeway from the refs for his on-court behavior. It will make the game even harder for Kobe and make his teammates even less inclined to support him. Of course, Kobe has a bigger Jesus complex than Bono, so that's probably what he wants.
