Sorry if this has been posted before.

I'm not a Kobe fan; I'm another in the category of "don't like his character but can't deny his talent." This is a nice mix and what's amazing is that it's just from last season. The guy is what I expect from a real professional athelete, incredible work ethic, watches tape over and over, and honing his skills further every year (I consider his last year so far to be the pinnacle of his career).

In terms of raw talent and pure overall basketball skill, if he sets his mind to any one aspect of the game, shooting, ball-handling, rebounding, defense etc... it would be hard not to argue him in the top five of that respective category.

What's scary is that even with all that (warning: obligatory Jordan comparison coming up), I still consider Jordan even better. Kobe's movements are smooth and seem to flow but Jordan's ability to use impact to redirect movement with a broader variety of adaptations made him even more reactive and unstoppable. It's also one of the reasons why I think Kobe sometimes has trouble with a long athletic defender and relies on picks where Jordan seemed to adapt faster in a time where there was even more contact allowed.

    the all-star game move

Yes he has the skills and all the talent in the world, no doubt about it. But as far as a leader, he is lacking. Game 7 against phoenix in the first round was mindboggling..

Comparing skill sets, you could argue Kobe is better than MJ. In reality, it ain't even close because the game of basketball is so much more than skill sets.

The Suns just rolled over them from the beginning, there wasn't much he could do. It was over before it started. He led them that entire series, especially in the close games that went down to the wire.

Not a Kobe fan at all, but that was a very very well made mix. Probably the best made one I've ever seen.

That was an extremely well made mix, and it shows that Kobe does have the court vision to be a great team player, he just refuses to utilise it. Hopefully, if it's a trust issue, the Lakers can surround him with talent capable of putting the ball in the hoop.

A lot of these criticisms could be applied to T-Mac when he was in Orlando. He's a better passer than a lot of us realized because he actually had some teammates here.

I wouldnt trust any of his teammates either. Smush Parker is a perpetual turnover, Brian Cook just camps on the three point line, Lamar Odom also camps and for some reason when he gets the ball he just doesn't do much with it and kwame brown is butterfingers like Stro was and doesn't have any sort of offensive game either.

He could probably do a lot better if he had some half-way decent teammates but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

pretty good for one season. and the 81 point game 4 screen thing was damn good by whoever put that together (even with 4 screens it took a long time to get through it all).

i think just in terms of talent and variety of things a player can do, things like ballhandling, shooting, driving, finishing, outside shooting, one on one defense, quick hands on steals, timing on blocks, passing ability (if not willingness), clutchness, ability to hit a seemingly limitless number of different and difficult shots, that kobe is easily the most talented player in the nba.

things like that move at the all-star game (going between the legs backward then hitting over someone fading away), the calmness and execution of that buzzer beater against phoenix, the body control on some of those twisting layups, the impossible fadeaways he hits, having a horrible shooting game against cleveland and then just draining 3 straight tough shots down the stretch, they are things just about only he can do. wade is probably even better on finishing, but doesn't have all the other things. lebron doesn't seem to have the same defensive instincts, nor the tough shot ability of kobe.

now does that mean he's the best player? no, other things go into that. i think lebron probably is because he's just so physically superior. he makes kobe look slow, small, and unathletic by comparison. after his playoffs wade is really close, but regular season-wise kobe had a decided advantage i think. but just talent-wise, i think he's well ahead. maybe ahead of anyone ever (jordan may have had more, but he, like lebron, had more of a physical edge over his counterparts than kobe and did other things better). if he ever figures out how to be a scorer and passer instead of seemingly only being able to do one at a time (he's kinda like francis in that sense, though not to the same extent) he'd be even better.

let it play through once, then you should have no problems.

on a side note, i dont like kobe much but thats one of the greatest mixes ever.

You really don't know? There are a lot of reasons why people hate kobe. And it's not exactly just one day people started hating him.

    Where do we start...
    - some people think he tries too hard to imitate jordan. All the mannerisms, the way he talks, the way he pumps his fist after a shot, etc.
    - he had a beef with shaq and people think he's the single reason why shaq is in miami right now, thus ending their 'dynasty'. he wanted his own team for himself
    - people think he is selfish

Oh yea, and he was also charged with rape. Even if he did not do it, he got clowned for cheating on his wife and 'snitching' on Shaq. I think that was pretty big..

Yea, true. But we're talking about Kobe here. Unfortunately he is not held to the same standards as some other players in the league. People's perceptions of him were shattered after the sex scandal. I mean, damn, Nutella dropped him as a spokesperson

Dude WAS supposed to be a clean, safe role model. The anti-iverson so to speak.

    Hence, the hate.

Kobe had a carefully crafted public image of being a clean family man before the rape accusation splattered that on the wall. He was also disliked because so many hate the Lakers and he helped them win 3 championships.

Two other comments: I love Wade, but Kobe is a better finisher at the rim. He doesn't do the acrobatic behind the head finishes that often like Wade and Wade is better at getting to the rim because he is so quick. But once near the rim, Kobe is much harder to stop because he is taller, stronger and just as nasty.

Lastly, nobody makes Kobe look slow and unathletic, not even LeBron. LeBron is a physical freak of nature but let's not get carried away. At this point in his career, Kobe doesn't go out of his way to show off his athleticism like LeBron, who is quite the showman (nothing wrong with that).
