http://www.suntimes.com/output/bulls/cst-spt-bull081.html According to this, the Bulls will deal Crawford and Eddie Robinson to the Knicks for Shandon Anderson, Dikembe Mutumbo, and probably Othella Harrinton. Crawford will get a deal for probably 5 years, $45 million. This is a fantastic deal for the Knicks, if Isiah can pull it off they'll be greatly improved, especially in the weak East where the Cavs just lost Boozer and the Nets might lose KMart to Denver. This really is a horrible deal for the Bulls, I wonder how it plays out.
how is getting a shoot-first PG goin to improve them? And lest we forget, they have a pretty me-first PG running the show there as it is. AND tack on the fact that he's locking up this undersized guard for FIVE years at 9 mil per, AND taking on Eddie Robinsion's ridiculous contract....Isiah Thomas is slowly, but surely, bringing down the Knicks' franchise. Talk about your need for instant gratifications.
bingo. Marbury's contract is huge and then tack on the following big contracts: Allan Houston Howard Eisley Penny Hardaway and now Jamal Crawford Eddie Robinson and i'm pretty sure they're way over the cap. if Zeke was a smart GM, or even a competent one, wouldn't you rather go and spend or SNT for a BIG rather than MORE backcourt players? Zeke's a better GM than Layden...but not by much.
This is a confusing deal. Why do the Knicks want Crawford when they already have Marbury and Houston locked up for eternity? This would make an awfully expensive backcourt up there in New York. The Bulls don't get much out of this deal either. They get two expiring contracts in Mutumbo and Harrington and they swap one bad contract (ERob) with another (Anderson). But if they want cap release, they could simply let Crawford walk. This is just just confusing.
Hey, don't knock Othella Harrington. He's a force in the NBA. Sorry, don't see many Othella fans anymore.
Knicks get to dump tow back contracts: Shandon Anderson and Dikembe Mutumbo. Pretty good move. Two bad contracts for one bad contract.
The ridiculous assertions that Marbury is a me-first point guard must stop. He was second in the NBA in assists last year and led the NBA in total assists. How is he me-first? Because he can score, he is therefore a me-first PG? That's ridiculous, he's one of the best passers in the game and yet people for whatever reason go by these assertions that he's selfish and not a passer. THE GUY AVERAGED 9 ASSISTS PER GAME. These are the same people that think Steve Francis (or thought, until he got traded) is the best PG in the league. Please. This helps the Knicks becuase Crawford can play 6th man and relieve Houston, who refuses to get knee surgery and will probably be injured for a significant portion of next season. With Marbury and Crawford, the Knicks will have a potent backcourt, with either player having the ability to bring the ball up, breakdown a defender, and set up a teammate or score.
every once in a while, for a giggle, i go look at the new york knicks salary structure. things are bad when shandon anderson is only about the 6th most overpaid guy on the team. actually, looking it over, after kurt thomas, name one guy on that team that is not grossly overpaid. truly amazing.
He gets those assists because he's selfish, his game is either going to lead to a shot or an assist, that game usually leads to losses and teammates being held back.
dikembe is only due 4.5M this year and it's his last year, and othella is only due 3.1M in his last year. true, shandon's contract blows but so does eddie robinson's (though it is one year shorter) and now they are adding in overpaying crawford at $9M/yr. so they've got houston, marbury, and crawford getting somewhere around $40M/yr all by themselves now. true, he does average a ton of assists, but then again his teammates don't always seem to like him and he always seems to be out for himself, thus the selfish label. selfish more in ego than in stats. somehow $9M for a sixth man doesn't sound like a great deal. mo t is a great sixth man, but he ain't worth the $8M we pay him.
Thomas sure knows how to put Knicks deeper and deeper in the whole. It seems every Knicks trade is trading away expiring/shorter contract for hugely overpaid contract/slightly better player. So much for building for the future.
Oh, they aren't building for the future when they deal a fossil C, a 31 y.o swingman, and an aging PF for 20-something PG and SF? With the Knicks cap situation the way it is, they can't rebuild, they have to make trades on the fly like this because if they lose an expiring contract, it's not getting them any closer to the luxury tax threshold, their total salary is something absurd like $88 M instead of $91 M. When you play in MSG and charge the most expensive ticket prices, play in the world's biggest market, and have your own TV station, I guess you can overpay for people. "He gets these assists because he's selfish."-Dumbest quote I've heard in a while. What does that mean? Asissts are setting up teammates so they can score, the act in itself is selfless, you are putting someone else before you. He averaged 20 and 9 last year, real selfish. I doubt anyone hear watches more than 3 games with Marbury in them a year, based on the selfish label and falling back on the "Well, his teammates don't like him." Which ones? Garnett? That's 1. Don't say Amare because those were rumors that Stoudemire and Marbury said weren't true. So one guy hasn't liked him and he's selfish, even though he routinely is one of the best assist men in the league. I love it.
He's selfish because his game either leads to a shot or a pass with a few seconds left on the clock, he holds the ball longer than anyone in the NBA, that's why teammates don't like him. Why did Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudamire become 20 point scorers as soon as he left? Because that dude was holding them back by hogging the ball, nobody does it more, nobody has done it as much since probably Oscar Robinson from what I've heard. Everyone playing with him better develop a catch and shoot move because he won't give you the time to actually dribble a ball, that's his game. I have watched WWWAAAAYYYY more than 3 of his games per year, have caught a handful in person, I've seen enough of him to know he's selfish and will probably never change.
so you're telling me that a team of Marbury, Allan Houston, Kurt Thomas, Penny Hardaway, Jamal Crawford, and Eddie Robinson can be considered good enough to go up against Detroit and Indiana? 'no but they're taking a step in the right direction'
Is it possible that teams like the Knicks and Suns are stockpiling talent for a run at Shaq? Just a thought, because otherwise it makes no sense at all. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, isn't it going to be hillarious to see Crawford and Starbury fighting over who has to take the ball out?
Marbury demands the ball to be in his hands at all times....he'll give you a shot(assist) when he's damn good and ready.
Kevin Garnett. New Jersey Nets. "I'm the real all star" Assists or not, Stephon has always been about Stephon, and he has made that clear.
