ESPN dallas just mentioned news (from NJ) that the News might be interested in a possible Jamison for K. Mart trade.

Would K. Mart work in Houston? Any thoughts on what we could offer that would be better then Dallas's offer?

wait... why would NJ trade KMart for Jamison unless KMart wanted out. It's not like they're getting that huge of an upgrade. Jamison is a better scorer, but KMart is a better defender. I guess they feel they need to shake things up after getting beat by Detroit?

KMart would be undersized in the West. Let's let him be someone else's experiment. I really don't like his attitude either. I remember a couple of years ago they lost to the Lakers and he was all criticizing his teammates to the media.

K-Mart wanted an $80 million contract extension. He rejected an offer of $66 million. For that kind of money, I want a better player than him.

i am actually a big k-mart fan. he may be a bit undersized but his heart is not. he's as tough as they come and a real team player. shot blocker, runs the break, d's up his man, will score. what's not to like?

It was in the NY papers. Is he a max player? Can Jersey get fair return while saving on salary?

Kmart is just all athleticism. I wonder how good he would be in the west and without Kidd getting him easy points. He cant average 20/10 playing in the east and he wants a max contract. I wouldnt give him more then what new jersey already offered.

I think he would be a good fit here with Van Gundy, but not at the price Martin and New Jersey would be asking for.

Not a bad deal for the Mavs though. K-Mart is undersized and will be overpaid, but so is Antawn Jamison. At least Martin brings defense, rebounding, and intensity.

There’s also a rumor from the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic might trade the #1 pick for Antoine Walker, if the Mavs agreed to take Grant Hill’s contract.

If they manage pull these deals off, their frontline might look like this:

    C Okafor
    PF Dirk
    SF Martin

They would still lack a legit center, but their defense and rebounding would be greatly improved.

What I will always remember about Kenyon Martin is Tim Duncan just totally abusing this guy in the finals last year. If Im not mistaken Martin's field goal % was something like high 20s or low 30s for that series. He is an athletic freak that plays alongside Jason Kidd and a good defender in the eastern confrence, but extremely overrated.

Doesn't make sense from the Nets' end.

If their only misgivings about Martin is that he isn't worth the max (what he's demanding), why would they trade him for a maxed out Jamison? Any upgrade AJ gives them in scoring, they lose in the dropoff in defense and rebounding. To say nothing about chemistry and intensity.

Only reason I can see them trading is that Martin's let it be known that he's walking. Which would be awfully odd since the Nets can match any deal he signs, like it or not (see: half of the Clippers last summer). Besides, the only way this trade could work would be if Kenyon already signed (can't happen for a couple months) or he's being packaged. If he's being packaged and traded before July 1st, that doesn't make sense either: he'd still be a RFA.

Other possibility: Cuban's also willing to take one of the many bad contracts off the Net's hands. Be it the Zo deal, Kittles, or whomever else.

Seeing as Kenyon's a Dallas product to begin with, I'm going to say the odds of this rumor coming out of Dallas and not Jersey are fairly good. Sounds a bit like a Dallas Morning News wet dream.

I think KMart would be a good compliment for Yao. But he wants way too much $$$.

Mo + the TE is all I would give up for him, and that ain't enough for the Nets.

K-Mart isn't worth the max. He should get about 3/4ths of the max, if he gets overpaid a little; so, if some team wants to ante up, maybe he'll wind up in Denver, Charlotte, Utah, Atlanta...

New Jersey played with some guts but they're still horrid and Jason Kidd, as good as he is, has started showing that he has nowhere to go but down. So K-mart might find greener pastures elsewhere.

Jason Kidd and the Nets went to the NBA finals two previous seasons only because the East was just horrible. This year the East actually has some worthy competition in Detroit and Indiana. Then Nets went down hard. Martin is not what Nets need to get rid of. He is young, atheletic, great defender/blocker, and have some post moves. Jason Kidd is the problem. Signing him a max contract for 6 more seasons near the end of his career is just insane.

LMAO...the Nets lost in game 7 on the road. You guys would be lucky to get K Mart. He is not just athleticism. He runs the floor all the time, he can score, he is a great team and 1 on1 defender, he is a good shot blocker, he is a decent passer, and a very good rebounder. I am not sure why you guys think Elton Brand is worth the money but K Mart isn't? K Mart is better and wins more.

people love to speculate and that's all well and good but i bet most people on this forum haven't seen k-mart play all that often. i agree with memphisx, i would take k-mart over brand any day.

Before suffering the flu in the final two games of the series, Martin had:

    (Pts / Rebs)

    Game #1: 21/12
    Game #2: 14/5
    Game #3: 23/11
    Game #4: 20/10

Along with 2+ blocks per game.

Argreed partly. Brand is overrated. He puts up excellent fantasy #s on bad teams. Clippers had some decent talent this year, and they still finished on the bottom. And I'm not sure about his mid range and fast break game much. Plus I think he would take space away from Yao in the middle if he was in the Rockets.

I think K-Mart would be a very good fit for the Rockets. He is that bad ass mother we need next to Yao. He can block shots, run the floor, and score. I actually think he can be better outside the Nets. Kidd helps some people's game (R.Jefferson), and hurts others, especially big men. Remember A. McDyss. He never developed under Kidd. I think KMart can do better in the West where low post is emphasized so much more.

That said, we cant get him. I wouldnt trade Francis for him, and they dont need Cat, so it doesnt matter.

No doubt that KMart is a good player. He defends well, he can score, he is a decent rebounder. He does a lot of things that we want as a player.

But the $$$ he wants is way too much for us. He is looking in the 80-90M range and there is no way the Rockets could even come close to this.
